I wasn't going to say anything in this thread but I feel compelled to to add a comment regarding the above quote, for I disagree that censoring pictures will make it more informative. I 'll begin by saying the only cigar magazine that I have been exposed to is cigar aficionado. Frankly, in my opinion that magazine is a piece of art. The book is over sized, the pictures are bold, glossy, and full of beauty. I have known the covers of the magazine to be adorned with strong, rich, intelligent, funny, worldly men which are all quality's that I find very sexy. For me cigar aficionado magazine does more for me then a playgirl magazine. However, I tell my husband I buy it for the article shhhhhhhhhh! I think its important to remember how information is forwarded is best determine by the audience. The beautiful photos of the cigars and their bans are timeless. Cigar bands and boxes were original created to be beautiful and artsy to lure the person in to an experience before your other senses could be plaited. In addition, cigar advertising encompassed all types woman and how they were portrait in that time. Clad woman are part of that advertising history although I myself have yet to see naked woman in that magazine.
On the other hand, I don't think you could denied the photo of Alejandro Robaina smoking a cigar August 2010 magazine tells a history before any written word is read. Much like your paintings photos in a cigar magazine should capture the history, the culture and the beauty of the cigar 's emancipation to compliant any written articles in the magazine.
I hope this is as clear as mudd! :smiley36::smiley36::smiley36:
I agree with Cinda, I read a couple of Archery mags, and in them, they show bikini clad women holding a bow...fortunately, the bow is usually nicer than some of the girls.
The one thing that bothers me about Daysi's posts is that she is crying for us to uphold her FREDOM of speech, but in the same breath, she is crying out for censorship of a magazine that she reads under her own persuasion.
Clear as can be, Grinella! :smiley20:
But - this is what I have to say about that...
I am writing this letter because I take issue with some of Daysiartpainter's ideals. Although my approach may appear a bit pedantic, by setting some generative point of view against a structural-taxonomical point of view or vice versa, I intend to argue that Daysiartpainter's reasoning is circular and therefore invalid. In other words, she always begins an argument with her conclusion (e.g., that she is as innocent as a newborn lamb) and therefore—not surprisingly—she always arrives at that very conclusion. The law is not just a moral stance. It is the consensus of society on our minimum standards of behavior. I don't want to overstate this point, but some people have indicated that it is difficult for many people to accept that Daysiartpainter's hectoring assertions have been found incompatible with personal security and the rights of property. I can neither confirm nor deny that statement, but I can say that no one has a higher opinion of Daysiartpainter than I, and I think Daysiartpainter is a dour meathead.
Please don't misinterpret that last statement to mean that it's okay to make my stomach turn. That's not at all what it means. Rather, it means that I shall be blamed by ignorant persons when I say that Daysiartpainter's surrogates always detect profound wisdom in what is most incomprehensible to them personally. Cruel as that maxim may appear, her childish "Mine! Mine! Mine! Now! Now! Now!" attitude makes me think that maybe Daysiartpainter rather grandiloquently refers to me and everyone else she dislikes as an infantile, militant scapegrace. But there's the rub; when Daysiartpainter hears anyone say that she has lost all sense of compassion, understanding, and humanity, her answer is to incite young people to copulate early, often, and indiscriminately. That's similar to taking a few drunken swings at a beehive: it just makes me want even more to get us out of the hammerlock in which she is holding us.
On a more personal note, at no time in the past did stentorian tricksters shamble through the streets of cities, demanding rights they imagine some supernatural power has bestowed upon them. This makes Daysiartpainter's manuscripts seem pea-brained and even a bit destructive. The destruction of the Tower of Babel, be it a literal truth, an allegory, or a mere story based upon cultural archetypes, illustrates this truth plainly. I have this advice to offer: The world has changed, Daysiartpainter; get used to it. On a completely different tack, I once had a nightmare in which she was free to address what is, in the end, a nonexistent problem. When I awoke, I realized that this nightmare was frighteningly close to reality. For instance, it is the case both in my nightmare and in reality that the idea of basing our entire society on slimy teetotalism is so far from reality, it's laughable. Now that's a rather crude and simplistic statement, and in many cases it may not even be literally true. But there is a sense in which it is generally true, a sense in which it clearly expresses how ignorance is bliss. This may be why Daysiartpainter's flacks are generally all smiles. Finally, any one of the points I made in this letter could be turned into a complete research paper, but the conclusion of each would be the same: It can plausibly be surmised that Daysiartpainter should be locked up.
Ah fer Christ's sakes! I told you guys we should have stuck to discussing her ass.
Doc.
I had a hunch when this thread originally popped up I should avoid it. But after reading George's verbose essay in response to somebody who loves a quote of the day website I have to say, I've only confirmed my original hunch. As Doc said way back towards the beginning, how is it the crazies always find this board?
I feel bad, even though I know George did enjoy penning that piece, that he actually had to waste time doing it. Especially when we haven't smoked in how long?
Actually I am happy George wrote that, I learned several new words that I am going to try and use in Scrabble!:smiley36:
65 Points for "Pedantic" in Words with Friends! I don't even know what it means but that triple letter tile on the P helped!
So does this mean that Daysi is done with her posts and quotes of the day? I was just getting used to it too...
Sadly, I haven't been getting much smoking time lately... :smiley19:
I now occupy my days writing essays for the likes of Daisy. Here's something I quickly scribbled together last night, while I was counting sheep...
Reading this post won't be the easiest thing you've ever done, but it may be one of the most rewarding. Some background is in order: Daysiartpainter does not merely use threats of fiscal (not "physical") harm to coerce antisocial personæ non gratæ into nailing people to trees. She does so consciously, deliberately, willfully, and methodically. For the sake of concreteness, you may find it instructive to contrast the things I like with the things that she likes. I like listening to music. Daysiartpainter likes gumming up what were once great ideas. I like kittens and puppies. Daysiartpainter likes leading an active disinformation campaign. I like spending time with friends (that goes for you too, BigMac). Daysiartpainter likes threatening anyone who's bold enough to state that she has made it known that she fully intends to create a kind of psychic pain at the very root of the modern mind. If those words don't scare you, nothing will. If they are not a clear warning, I don't know what could be.
How I pity Daysiartpainter if I were to be her judge. I would start by notifying the jury that I should note that if Daysiartpainter had two brain cells to rub together, she'd realize that her criticisms promote a redistribution of wealth. This is always an appealing proposition for Daysiartpainter's deputies because much of the redistributed wealth will undoubtedly end up in the hands of the redistributors as a condign reward for their loyalty to Daysiartpainter. Daysiartpainter makes a living out of frotteurism. I call this tactic of hers "entrepreneurial frotteurism". Daysiartpainter and her partisans have indisputably raised entrepreneurial frotteurism to a fine art by using it to dismantle the family unit. Even if I were, as she seems to think I am, a brown-nosing kook, at least I know better than to rub salt into our wounds. In contrast, Daysiartpainter is extraordinarily brazen. We've all known that for a long time. However, her willingness to degrade, divide, and destroy our forum sets a new record for brazenness.
On a more pedestrian level, every so often, Daysiartpainter tries declaring that it's okay if her conclusions initially cause our quality of life to degrade because "sometime", "someone" will do "something" "somehow" to counteract that trend. Whenever she gets caught doing so she raises a terrific hullabaloo calculated to utilize legal, above-ground organizing in combination with illegal, underground tactics to anesthetize the human spirit. She has been trying to popularize the narrative that the health effects of secondhand smoke are not negligible. My fear is that if she's successful at promoting such cockamamy notions then even the man on the Clapham omnibus may agree to let her give voice, in a totally emotional and non-rational way, to her deep-rooted love of teetotalism. Now that you've read this pos, let me challenge you, the reader, not just to help me make Daysiartpainter's ridiculous publications understood, resisted, and made the object of deserved contempt by young and old alike, but also to educate others about what I've written.
We should start a quote thread!!! :smiley20:
Let me begin...

- Bill Cosby
"Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid."

I don't even have to type anymore. Just copy and paste.
You know what they say about arguing with a moron, right? "Never argue with a moron - they'll bring you to their level and beat you with experience." <author unknown>
Of course I subscribe to the philosophy, "Never argue with an idiot. The best outcome you can hope for is that you won an argument with an idiot."

So... In the interim - that dissertation, my friend, is as close to writing absolutely nothing as one dares go... :smiley2:
Never wrestle with pigs. The pigs love it and all you do is get dirty. Damn flatlanders never get anything right.
Doc.
If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?

Daisy,
I think you misunderstood my post. Please - let me explain further...
In this post, I want to skip the usual preaching, moralizing, and pontificating and go straight to the facts. To address this in a pedantic manner, in the rest of this post, factual information will be prefaced as such and my own opinions will be clearly stated as opinions. For instance, it is a fact that Daysiartpainter thinks that she is a voice of probity. Of course, thinking so doesn't make it so.
Daysiartpainter's perversions deserve to be criticized because they exploit the masses. Again, Daysiartpainter says that she is cunctipotent. I've seen more plausible things scrawled on the bathroom walls in elementary schools. Yes, she may be nothing more than a disposable tool of power-wielding, viperine yobbos but Daysiartpainter says that everyone would be a lot safer if she were to monitor all of our personal communications and financial transactions—even our library records. Why on Earth does Daysiartpainter need to monitor our library records? While that question may not be as profound as "What's the meaning of life?" or "Is there a God?", Daysiartpainter's criticisms of my posts have never successfully disproved a single fact I ever presented. Instead, her criticisms are based solely on her emotions and gut reactions. Well, I refuse to get caught up in Daysiartpainter's "I think … I believe … I feel" game.
Behold what a nice, thick, fat lie it is when Daysiartpainter denies ever having strived to blow the whole situation way out of proportion. Perhaps we're still a long way from being able to open minds instead of closing them, but remember that whenever she attempts to damage the self esteem and physical health of millions of young men and women, she looks around waiting for applause as if she's done something decent and moral rather than stupid and ghastly. She may make us less united, less moral, less sensitive, less engaged, and more perversely filthy right after she reads this post. Let her. Some day, I will tear down Daysiartpainter's fortress of isolationism.
Ancient Greek dramatists discerned a peculiar virtue in being tragic. Daysiartpainter would do well to realize that they never discerned any virtue in being brain-damaged. Still, she can't possibly believe that things have never been better. She's horny but she's not that horny. Nothing unites people like a common enemy. That's why I would encourage everybody to take some shots of their own at Daysiartpainter by reprimanding her for imposing a "glass ceiling" that limits our opportunities for promotions in most jobs. Mark my words: some people think it's a bit extreme of me to make this world a kinder, gentler place—a bit over the top, perhaps. Well, what I ought to remind such people is that mercantalism has served as the justification for the butchering, torture, and enslavement of more people than any other "ism". That's why it's Daysiartpainter's favorite; it makes it easy for her to irrationalize thinking on every issue.
What I find frightening is that some academics actually believe Daysiartpainter's line that everyone and everything discriminates against her—including the writing on the bathroom stalls. In this case, "academics" refers to a stratum of the residual intelligentsia surviving the recession of its demotic base, not to those seekers of truth who understand that Daysiartpainter's litanies are becoming increasingly inimical. They have already begun to make bigotry respectable. Now fast-forward a few years to a time in which they have enabled Daysiartpainter to destroy all tradition, all morality, and the entire democratic system. If you don't want such a time to come then help me improve the lot of humankind. Help me prevent the Daysiartpainter-induced catastrophe I foresee and save our nation from its time of deepest humiliation and disgrace. In closing, please remember that my ultimate goal is to address the real issues faced by mankind. If I advance, follow me. If I stop, urge me on. If I retreat, kill me.
I hope that clears it up for you, Daisy.
How dare you accuse and offend her...at least I think you did.
daysiartpainter, I think you are being very selfrightous, and really need to step down from your podium, you see, we are a very tight knit community, and when we see a bullshitter, we call them out, and when we see someone who has plans only for themselves, well, then we call them out on it.
You , as an individual, have contributed nothing of value to this community, and I think you are a real work of art yourselfplease do not confuse that last statement as a compliment, it was intended as a bit of sarcasm.
I am not writing this to attack you, but only to point out the obvious.
