Your dad found a AR 15 in this market? Wow :smiley3:
The shops near me are always getting rifles in (complete rifles and lowers for builds). One of my local shops listed the following items available as of today:
2 Daniel Defense Rifles in 300 Blackout
2 Smith&Wesson one in 300 wis.
1 Bushmaster in .450
4 Colts one used Colt in 9mm (collector item)
1 Core15
2 Sig Sauer
2 LWRC
12 – AR15 | 22s
1 – AK
The ammo though, that goes quick. .22LR is gone as soon as the store opens.
[QUOTE=Eville;189572]It took nearly 3 months but my CMP Special in .308 finally showed up last night at my parents house. Now I just need to get home to shoot it. The AR is a Sig that my dad got last night as well.[QUOTE]
Very nice......and, I didn't know you could get an M1 in .308
I've always wanted an M1 and to get one in .308, which is what I hunt with, would mean not having to buy another caliber of ammo.
I'm jealous :smiley4:
I considered getting the 30-06, but then you have to buy either surplus 30-06 which is often times corrosive, or you have to buy only commercial ammo that is loaded to similar pressures as the surplus to keep the gas system happy. I am fine with running corrosive through my M44, or even a low grade M1, but I was looking for one I could pass down through my future family. So, I went to CMP and ordered the .308. It has a fully reconditioned receiver with a new production stock and Criterion barrel. It even has a block installed to prevent any dumbasses from loading 30-06 into it. :smiley16:
My handguns have changed a bit since 2009 when I started this thread. Sold the Ruger P94 and bought a Glock 17 :smiley20:. Got my CCP, picked up a Kel Tec P11 and for the life of me (quite literally) can't seem to want to get rid of it. I hear stories about the P11's reliability but have had not a single issue with mine. Been having trouble finding 9mm ammo though. Is this a national issue or just NC? Is everyone else having trouble finding ammo too?
Two things about the Ammo situation: You might remember there's a war going on and people are hording because of the political situation.
I got a quarter ton of lead, 30k primers, lots of powder, and more brass and empty shot shells than I can count. I started stocking up after 9/11. Don't cry now, you should have known. It's not the first time it's happened.
Doc
I have some ammo Doc, but you don't shoot up what you cant replace.
I didn't find any 22 other than snake shot:smiley36: no 223 either.
The only thing I found was more 9mm and 380 but I have what I need in that caliber.
Can I come and hang with you if the zombie apocalypse ever happens........LOL
We suffer chronic shortages here in Canada. For about a year and a half I couldn't find the .308 ammo I use for hunting. Luckily I had several hundred rounds stored. When they started appearing again, I bought several hundred more. I was told in several sporting goods/gun stores that it was the fault of the US military. Since most of the ammo is manufactured in the US, the US military gets first dibs.
So far the situation in the US doesn't seem to have affected us up here........but it's a slow time of year for ammo. We'll see what happens in a month or two. Luckily I have enough .45 acp and .308 saved up to get me through the summer. I have a couple thousand .22 lr stored up. Normally I don't bother with the .22 because that's never been hard to find but there were a couple sales last fall and I picked a couple 500 round bricks up at a gun auction last fall too.
Hopefully things will normalize in the US real soon. All I know is, I've always meant to reload as it would save me a ton of $$$ and I've always kept my brass.....now may be the time to invest in reloading equipment.
Reloading is a good idea. You can make better ammo at home than you can buy, if you're willing to put in the time and effort. Weather its cheaper or not depends on how much you shoot and how persnickety you get. However re-loaders are facing the same shortages, only it's primers, lead, powder and brass.
Doc
I'm wondering if the ammo shortage and hording will slow down now that that bill didn't pass in the US. Here's hoping!
The .45 acp I buy is actually made here in Canada by a company that can, and will, reload for you. I'm getting it for about half what I'd pay for factory loads. Since all I'm doing is shooting dinger targets and paper with it, I buy the plain lead semi-wad cutter ammo as it's cheapest
Well I have been busy with work and rebuilding my computers so haven't posted much sorry.
I did get some time to work out a 223 load using IMR 4320, 23.1 grain and nosler varmageddon 55 grain my gun likes that load and I am happy. :smiley20:
IM still collecting parts to build my 300 black out so haven't worked on any loads for that yet.
Now I see that archangel is making a stock for the Mosin Nagant, I am really wanting to play with one of them.
http://www.archangelmanufacturing.co...products-2013/
Love that stock!
I haven't made it to the range yet this year :smiley7:
It's been a hectic and busy spring for me and the few chances I've had, something came up at the last minute. I should be able to go this Sunday. I so need to sight my main hunting rifle in now that the replacement scope is on it and of course, I need to get my handguns dirty.....
I have to swap around some scope's my self then resight them in, picked up a Nikon Prostaff I like for my 300 WM.
I skipped the range day this afternoon it was just to hot.
My AR went to the range without me :smiley36: its being used to teach a young kid how to shoot.
I built it to be used/abused so if it comes back in one peace im happy.
They're pretty tough so I'm thinking it made it home in one piece! LOL
I'm hoping to take my son to the range with me on Sunday. He's been staying with us this last week. He moved into the big city 2 hours away and then landed a great job here in town. He was living in Slave Lake, AB about an hour and a half west of here before moving to Edmonton. I'll be glad when they send him out on his first shift next Tuesday. I love him but I've gotten very used to having no kids in the house.........LOL
I've never taken him to the range before and it'll be great to share that with him.
Yea the AR made it home safely. :smiley20:
Im in the middle of building a blackout now, but the wife cut my spending down for a while so ill complete it next month.
I did pick up a 38 special derringer the other day but that peace of junk went back to the shop today, while I was at it I dropped of a old 32 revolver that needed a new firing pin and decided I wanted to change the sights on my ruger P89.
I did get in some range time yesterday.:smiley1: still working on a load for my 300 win mag that I like but i have to put that on hold while I start making some 300 AAC rounds to get ready for when the wife lets me order the upper parts.
I some how forgot that I added a Rock Island 1911 to my collection.:smiley9:
It is picky on what mag you use but it dose have a decent trigger and runs flawlessly.
My dreams of getting a 50 BMG are going to have to wait a while longer, I came across my old 303 brit jungle version I had back in 1993 and traded to a guy, now he sold it to the gun shop I go to.
I was out of $ and could not get it, the guy replaced the original stock with some plastic one :smiley5: but I still want it back.
I am new to the forum and seen Gun Owning Smokers thread.
I have a few cigars thanks to my neighbor and fellow member on here "kingbeefy"
I also have a few Glocks (which imo are the best ;) Colt AR, Tac 870, and a M&P .357 snubbie
Don't shoot a lot just collect...hopefully I will collect a decent amount of cigars too
My two babies our my Springfield XDs which is my primary carry weapon and my LWRC 6.8 PSD. I also own a Springfield XDm 40 Compact, a Ruger 10/22, a mini 14, and a Benelli Supernova.
My wife is the gun-toting gangsta of my family. I grocery shop, cook, and she protects my life. It works.
I actually will be going to get my carry permit in about a week, I'm looking forward to being the man of the house again. It's been a long time.
Ok lets get the gun thread back on track. :smiley36:
I finally got off gun restriction this morning and went right back on it 30 min later when she saw the email confirmation and price of my new toy. :smiley6:
I ordered a upper to complete my new AR build 300 AAC blackout and some ammo.
https://sotaarms.com/component/jshop...2/119?Itemid=0
Now that im on gun restriction again im scared to call the local gunsmith up and see if he finished my Rugger P89 I had him put new sights put on it.
"I was felling lazy so I let them do the work". If I walk in the door of a gun shop something will follow me home I just know it.
LOL
I really like that AR upper, it's going to look great on. Definitely take pics and post them here.
I just bought a new scope for my hunting rifle. So I could have more money to spend on cigars, I decided to try a BSA rifle scope after reading a lot of reviews. Here I always thought BSA made only motorcycles. Turns out they've been manufacturing firearms for a long time, bicycle, motorcycles and now scopes. For about $150 I bought a nice 6x24 - 44mm with the adjustable turrets for windage and elevation as well as an adjustable objective lense. I can't wait for it to be delivered!
Oh, my bro came up to visit last Thursday (he's heading home today) and brought his Savage .22 (semi auto) and his 30-06 He got the 3x9 - 40mm that I removed from my main hunting rifle in anticipation of my new scope. We got him all sighted in and now he's all ready for hunting season too. The scope that was on his 30-06 went onto the Savage and I'm quite pleased and impressed with the accuracy of that particular rifle. The gophers back home are going to be most unhappy he's sighted in.........LOL We burned through about 2000 rounds of .22, a couple hundred .45 acp's and 24 30-06.
Good choice on the scope.
I don't put a lot of $ in scopes, I am kind of hard on them and would be upset if I broke a $600 scope but a $100 im ok with.:smiley36:
I finished swapping around scopes, Im happy with where im at with all but the 300AAC build.
I picked up some small scope I like the way it looked "Leapers UTG 3-9x32 Compact CQB Bug Buster" http://www.amazon.com/Leapers-3-9x32.../dp/B005VRYHNI
I spent a hour or so in a gun shop trying every scope they had but my eye's suck so it don't matter if I get the best scope I can find with bifocals.
I can either see the cross hairs clear or the target not both at same time.
Going home tomorrow to try out my latest purchases. I have about 900 rounds of 556 and 200 .308s that are calling my name.
Sounds like a flinch in the making.
Doc
That's a decent little scope and the reviews are good on it.
Yep, like you I'm hard on scopes. I've had decent luck so far but last fall, I shot my elk and left the scope dialed up to 9 (I usually keep it at 4.5) while I dressed the elk out. After I was done, I picked up my rifle and tried to dial it back to 4.5 and the dial wouldn't move. I didn't bump it, drop it or anything so I'm not sure what's up with that. Bushnell replaced it free of charge so it turned out ok in the end. I did check out some Leupold's and Bushnell's but the ones with adjustable turrets and higher power ranged upwards of $600 and I'm not spending that much considering my luck....lol. If this BSA scope works as well as it should, I'll buy another next spring and mount it on my spare hunting rifle.
It turns out my sporting goods store here in town actually has BSA scopes.....just not the model I wanted. But I'm going to see if they can order it in, how long it'll take if they can, and how much $$$ If I can get it for under $200, I'll buy from them as it's going to cost me that much with shipping from US to Canada.
Crappy Cell phone pic I cant find the camera.
I came home form work and the upper was waiting on me along with a few round's to test fire it tomorrow.
SOTA arms 300AAC black out upper in black stainless steel lower is magpull and palmetto state armory parts.
I did get 100 rounds made over the weekend, cut down 223 brass that I want to test also. 125 grain jacketed hollow points with 17.2 grain's of H110.

I see a Padron!!!
Got a chance to shoot my SR556 and M1 over the past few days. Both are EXCELLENT firearms. I only have 3 complaints about the Ruger. The firing pin retaining pin that came with it was to big and protruded from the side of the bolt carrier. About 10 minutes with a vice, hammer, and some files fixed that issue. The second complaint is that the aluminum hand guard gets hot; FAST. 60 rounds in and it was almost too hot to hold. I'm going to have to get some rails and heat shields put on ASAP. Thirdly, the front site that came with it does not adjust in increments. On a milspec sight, there is a pin that allows you to adjust the elevation in "clicks". X number of clicks = Y inches at Z meters. The Ruger's is just a straight screw, so there was a lot of guesswork to figure out how much to turn it to get the desired result. Other than that, shot like a dream. The Burris Fast Fire 3 site was a bit of a pain to zero, but she works like a charm now.
Then there is the M-1. Semi-auto, .308, smooth as silk with an ever so satisfying "PING" to let you know you just sent 8 rounds down range. What more can I say about it?

Eville I see you have the UTG riser on it. :smiley20: "they are cheap but work great"
I put one on both my AR's and it makes a big difference for looking in the scope with bifocals on.
Mine stays cool after a 30 round mag dumps, I haven't tried back to back mag dumps yet to see if it gets hot.
Yea Will that's one of the pardons form your last box split, I had to have a good cigar after completing the build.:smiley4:
