My first ISOM

Thanks to anew friend up north I got my hands on a few ISOMs

Decided to start with a Partagas Shorts leaving the best for last :smiley2:

When I looked at it first I though ok too many veins but it does have a nice velvety feel with oily and brown wrapper. But how is that different from what I have smoked before especially with a length of about 5 and a ring gauge of around 40 - I have seen things more mpressive before. But keeping an open mind I started my journey

The cap is cut and the pre-light fraw is tighter than the non ISOMs but def not plugged.

I have infront of me a cup of very nice coffe and I am ready to light this one up. Amazingly the cigar does not bet burned a lot on the edges but maybe just a 1/5 of an inch all around perfect burn.

So I am ready to get hit with the strength of what I heard ISOMs are all about. Nothing of the kind. Just a nice smooth draw with hints of spice. One inch down I see very nice holding ash and all I get is pure smoothness and spices galore. Interesting thing is its not just spicy but a multitude of spices that keep changing from pull to pull. I already like this Now I get some hints of earth, wood, and leather. Ok this is interesting I am half way through this beauty so I will change it up a bit

Now I have a glass with 12 year old Mc'Callan scotch aged in cherry wood. :smiley17:

And just in time the cigar changes into a reall erthy herby type of taste, I smell a nice medow pine, and smoke but not the fire fire help me kind but like a nice smoked meat kind as the cigar turns to mere mellow nutty flavors now.

How can they get so many tastes and smells into such a little cigar.

You sure it wasn't a Partagas Petite Coronas Especiale?

Just checking...because although the two are common in size, they are completely different smokes.

I highly doubt it, the dimensions of these cigars are quite different from one another. A Petit Corona Especiales is a machine made cigar measuring 5 1/4 x 44 otherwise known as an "Eminentes" vitola. These cigars are almost impossible to find. On the other hand those horrible Partagas Shorts are a hand made cigar measuring 4 3/8 x 42 and are a "Minuto" vitola. Partagas Shorts are abundant and very popular. Personally I can't stand the friggin' things.:smiley21:

I personally would consider them close in size. It is quite difficult to tell an inch or so and 2 rg when they are not side to side...for me anyways.

Are the PCEs really that hard to find? I sure didn't have any trouble finding a box...

EDIT:

I checked a couple of sites (like the link below) and they say it's "hand made". I know "Hencho a Mano" is spanish for "completely hand made", but I don't know how else to interpret "hand made".

Must have been Petite Coronas Especiale but could noit have been machine made -- too good for that

The Min Ron Nee book says the Partagas Petit Coronas Especiales are a machine made cigar that were slated to be discontinued in 2002. My HabanosSA information doesn't even list this cigar so I'm fairly certain that means they are discontinued. This vitola is no longer listed on the HabanosSA website.

Again, my literature and sources indicate these are machine made cigars. That's a whole lot more reliable than what some vendor claims. HabanosSA literature and sources for information are much more reliable then vendor claims.

Whether they were "good" or not is no proof to conclude they were not machine made. I've smoked lots of "great" machine made Cuban cigars and I've also smoked some average totally hand made Cuban cigars.

Partagas Petit Coronas are indeed hand made, they are 5 1/8 x 42, a "Mareva" vitola and have also been discontinued even though you can still buy them. My guess is that this is what you smoked.

I know the vendor you referenced Newfie lists those cigars on their site but have you checked with them to see if they actually have them in stock? That particular vendor lists many cigars on their website that they actually don't have in stock. How about you drew? Does your source actually have them in stock or merely listed on their site? Based on my experience, the Partagas PCEs are hard to find.

Well THAT vendor is even more wrong than the first one. As I said, the Partagas Petit Coronas is a hand made, Mareva vitola measuring 5 1/8 x 42. And for the second time, the Partagas Petit Coronas Especiales is a machine made, Eminentes vitola measuring 5 1/4 x 44.

I am in Ontario. But our cursed history of a Socialist Government has forced the French language on us.:smiley38:

E.g.: You CAN NOT get a job with any governmental agency ANYWHERE in Canada unless you are bilingual. Imagine if anywhere in the States you had to speak Spanish to be able to get a job in any level of Government??

CC, I have nothing but the uttermost respect for you, but in this case I think you are either wrong, or we are both on a different page. In front of me I have a box that the Partagas Petit Coronas Especiales came from. On the side it says "Made By Hand" and on the bottom burned it says "Totalmente a Mano"

The box code is FEB06. The is absolutely no question on the authenticity of these sticks.

I could post some pics, but dial up kind of sucks for things like that. Here are some pics of the box that I uploaded before I moved while I had DSL.

From what I understand the Partagas Petit Coronas were discontinued some time ago.

Just to clarify...yes it may say something in the book about a machine made hard to find smoke, but what was the publish date of the book CC?

I know for a fact where that stick came from that Dan smoked, and I assure you that it was a Hand Made, Partagas Petit Coronas Especials made in February 2006.
