Thoughts on the Inauguration and the American People

While I was watching the Inauguration today, I noticed some disturbing actions by my fellow Americans. The first thing that bothered me was the booing of Pres. Bush, both Sr. and Jr. The people booing them were my parents age, late 50's / early 60's. The actions of these parents trouble me in that this is what their kids are seeing and the morals/behaviors that are being passed on to them. While I did not vote for Pres. Bush Jr's second term, I will respect the mad for what he wanted to do, and the responsibilities which he voluntarily accepted. When Pres. Bush Jr walked down the steps to his seat at the Capital Building, I clapped for him, as I did all presidents before him. A lady at the table next to me, said "Are you serious!?!?” I said "Yes, I can be respectful." Her response was "Well you don’t know what he did then, do you!” I was shocked at that display of rudeness and intolerance. This is not what I expect from my parent's generation, but its actions like this which explain why I see people of similar age to me, being disrespectful, rude and self-centered. Lastly, when Former Pres Bush Jr. boarded Executive One to fly off to Andrews AFB, the room erupted in applause, cheers, and song. While Former Pres. Bush Jr did not enjoy a high level of public support, the amount of disrespect, contempt and open scorn to Bush Jr disappoints me greatly. The same people who preach openness and progressiveness for our society happened to be the same folks who showed intolerance and scorn of an elected official. The lady who confronted me when I clapped for then Pres. Bush Jr showed a level of intolerance that bothers me greatly. We as a people need to show more respect to people in general, but certainly ones who take on such large responsibility. While you may dislike the person, keep those comments to your self. Do not accost people who differ in opinions. I feel that the values which this country was founded upon are being dismissed by both the government and its people.

Thanks for sharing this CJ. I too have found many Obamma supporters and Bush haters to be just plain disrespectful, rude, ignorant assholes.

I wonder how these same pieces of shit will act when they realize that Obamma can't solve all their problems for them?:smiley29:

In response to the OP. It think its due to people now a days only caring for them selves and no one else, on top of that the "herded sheep" mentality of people today who can not think for them selves and only fallow the masses. Im only 22 years old, I may not have lived that long to know a whole lot or to be wise enough to understand how the world really works, but it is very freighting to see people much older than me and who should be much wiser than me, not question things that they see or hear. It is very scary that no one thinks for them selves anymore, and even scarier that these traits are being passed on to the younger generations.

You say that you're surprised that people your parents age would act this way. I'm not, because remember we went from the "Greatest Generation", to the baby boomers, who are arguably the worst. Not that mine is any better - they can't even seem to move out of their parent's house.

Some of the children of the sixties spent their youth despising patriotism. This can sometimes show through as open disrespect for conservative government officials, or conservatives in general. I imagine these attitudes followed them into late adulthood. Though it is disheartening to still see it, I think the level of national pride has increased quite a bit since the days of Vietnam. We may not be perfect, and we may all not agree, but we are a country and a team. We have the right to disagree, and the responsibility to do it respectfully and with dignity. Now, light up and relax! :smiley41:

Some of the things President Obama has done I like just fine, some I don't. A VAST improvement over the extreme retardation of the last douchebag to hold that office. BTW, dumbya couldn't find his ass in 16 to 18 months, no less get the troops out of Iraq in that amount of time.

I think that was a great move.

Because the writing of the bill was so extensive, it also cut funding to programs that provide birth control to third world countries (including condoms to AIDS stricken areas) so it did nothing but damage and hurt a lot of people, and make a few hard core evangelicals happy.

I fully support the use of any stem cells in research. But, this controversy is really about the radical evangelical wing of the pub party being completely anti-science. Now that they don't have a stranglehold on the higher public offices anymore, maybe we can get back to being an international leader in scientific research, especially medicine.(at least where it concerns things other than growing hair or getting an erection).
