I'm sure I read this topic here before but I couldn't find it. I want to know what alcohol everybody enjoys with a smoke. I am particularly interested in brands of scotch, rum and beer. Also do you have a good place to purchase these drinks?

Guinness, Bluberry Ale, Gin and Tonics, and that's all for now.
so far i have only had MGD, Corona and 14 year old scotch while smoking. i liked the scotch with it but it was my friend's liquier so i didn't have much.

Here are two of the posts where we have discussed this before :smiley14: :smiley20:
I've found that Amarula cream liqueur is quite nice straight or on the rocks... It's a South African liqueur made from the fruit of the Marula tree (or elephant tree) Saw it on an episode of the Thirsty Traveler and me and the wife had to try some. Now my fav as far as cream liqueurs go. Otherwise, a nice irish whisky does the trick.
Definitly a Good Guinness...... A Nice Beer With a Nice Cigar!
Ommegang Abbey ale. A belgian ale with a spicy sweetness and a creamy head. Simply excellent with a good smoke! Especially a Maduro. As far as beer styles go, there is none better IMHO. Other than that, any barleywine, stout, or scotch ale will do. Any beer with low hopping and a spicy or smokey maltiness is what you're looking for.
Port is good too. Cognac/bourbon/scotch straight up. Cognac/Bourbon with a splash of amaretto (Cognac with a splash of Amaretto is one of my favorites) . Coffee and Kahlua over ice.
Some like a good merlot or burgundy. Personally, I'm not particularly fond of fine wine and cigars together. I don't like tart flavors along along with a smoke. My tastes may change with time though.
I like Southern Comfort for a liquor somtimes on the rocks mostly straight up and Dos Equis with lime in a frozen mug for a beer. Ahhh, I can taste it now....
Dos Equis! I drank a lot of that when I was in Mexico! Unfortunately, I wasn't smoking cigars at that time. Otherwise I would have found a Havana or two! :smiley37:
Rum = Anniversario Pampero by Ron Pampero (simply the best on the planet IMO)
Scotch = Dalmore Cigar Malt, Dewars 12, Glenmorangie 12 year
Other notables = Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 Green Label, Knob Creek
Whenever I can get it, I like Hot Damn!

Don't forget that different cigar styles go together with different activities and drinks. On a warm summer day or when you're grilling, a good mild smoke and a cold lager, pilsner, or cola go well together. I like the Don Kiki Greens for this.
The fuller smokes go well after a meal in the evening with a heavier drink. Nothing like a Cohiba with a Cognac or port wine or a Romeo Y Julietta Maduro with a belgian ale or Cognac in the late evening.
My current & recent favorites that come to mind are...
Single malt: Glenmorangie 12 year, The Glenlivet 12 year
Beer: the Alaska Brewing Company's Summer Ale and Oatmeal Stout, Deschutes Brewery's Black Butte Porter, and Guinness.
Wine: BV 1999 Rutherford Cab, BV 2001 Muscat de Beaulieu
Single malt scotch, The Mcallen when I can afford it.
Stolichnaya Ohranj on the rocks or...
Gentleman Jack, Johnnie Walker Black (yeah the Blue is nice but I can't afford it), Chivas, or even a nice Port wine such as Sandeman or Fonseca.
For me, the only liquor to drink with a cigar is Cognac, preferably Remy Martin.
Zaya Gran Reserva - 12 year aged rum from Guatemala. Simply the best rum I've ever tasted. Its a sipping rum, don't ruin it with coke or any sort of mixters.

East Coast warehouse and bottles should be on the West Coast by Sept. 22.
Brewery Ommegang will continue to make Ommegang Ale to be sold in 12-ounce
bottles and occasionally in kegs as well as the range of beers it has added

40% in 2005, rising demands means that production of the 750s of Ommegang Ale
in Belgium may continue through 2006.
Rum: Bacardi 8 year old
Whisky: Canadian Club or Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Beer: Quite partial to Old Peculiar at the moment
Scotch: Macallen's (12), Glenmorangie (18), Bushmills (Black Label)
Cognac: Courvoisier or Hennessy VSOP
Wine: A nice Port
I had a glass of Macallen's 12 last night, good stuff.
One of my favs. is Dalmore 12. Try it if you haven't.
Vodka gimlet
I noticed our Trader Joe's carries that brand of scotch, I'll definitely have to check it out!Quote:

Cooler months: A good single malt Scotch (Highland Park 18 yo or Lagavulin 16 yo), or a bourbon (Maker's Mark) manhattan.
Warmer months: A negroni (equal parts gin, campari and sweet vermouth) or a hearty beer.
I've had cigars with white wine and gin martinis, and they don't seem to work well together.
Port and cognac also seem like they would work.
