Is this smokable? Long lost cigar, found 10 years later (Pics within)

Hi All,

Was just cleaning out the basement when I found this beauty in the drawers. I was given this cigar on my graduation, and since I didn't smoke cigars at the time, I just shelved it.

Since I never had a cigar aged for so long, was wondering if this is still smokable? The cellophane had the signature tobacco-brown tinge to it, the cigar itself is firm to the touch, and the smell has a very mellow and sweet woodsy bouquet to it. Although, I'm not sure if the wrapper color variation is a function of age (bloom?), or some other thing I don't know about. I don't think it's mold since it's not musty at all.

Anyhow, I've transferred the cigar into a ziploc freezer bag. If the cigar is legit, what's the best way to reintroduce it into the humidor? Also, as a precaution, should i freeze it first to make sure it's bug free (no signs of pinholes on cigar or cellophane, nor the signature tobacco dust at foot of cellophane.

I'm sorry man, I wouldn't smoke that. If it's not been in a humi for 10 years, it's pretty much ruined.

You could make a cool Christmas tree ornament out of it. I did that one time...

Where's your sense of adventure, guys? I say at least give it a shot. Throw it in the humi for a few months and light her up. What's the worst that could happen?

Nothing is can't be smoked. Give it a shot.

Have you smoked a Black Label? Maybe you can come back with a side-by-side comparison in a few months.

Good idea. I've never tried a Black Label, but I will now and do a comparison. Who knows, maybe it'll be a short-lived review, or maybe a diamond in the rough (wistful thinking, I know, but I just checked humidity in the basement, it's around 63 :smiley20:, so who knows).

I've isolated the cigar with some beads into its own ziploc humi just so it doesn't ruin my stash. We'll see what happens in a few months.

Smoke it....

Basements are usually pretty stable, if yours is at 63%, chances are good that it hasn't dropped too much below that.

Nothing to lose, unless you feel the need to smoke it on a special occasion... in which case, you should have taken better care of it in the first place.

Oh no, it'll light, it'll smoke, it'll just taste like poop. Either way, i'd love to see video of it being smoked.

Sorry for reviving an old post, but I stumbled across this thread and found myself laughing at the responses to the OP. I can't believe someone would try to smoke a cigar that resembles a kitty turd that's been in the litter box for two weeks.

A friend of mine gave a cigar from the 50-60s. It was hard as a rock. I slowly brought it back to life, and now it's sitting in the humi like a normal cigar. As a novelty, I took it to antiques roadshow (my girlfriend's family has a lot of antique furniture), and I knew it was worth nothing, but the guy who knew cigars got pumped about it. We talked for 30 minutes or so, shook my hand and suggested (a terrible) place to buy habanos.

If hasn't yet, I'll smoke mine when he smokes his. :smiley37:

Also, that partagas used to be so black and oily, I bet it's probably screwed. :smiley36:

My wife's aunt and uncle have a winter place in a small town in eastern Tennessee, they love it down there, taxes are cheap and it's a whole lot nicer down there in the winter than up here. I think it's in Carter County. Is that anywhere near you?

That's north eastern TN, I'm south eastern TN. But not that far off really. Also, there is some beautiful stuff up there. Lots of good hiking. :smiley37:

LOL!:smiley36: Lots of people leaving the northeast, that's for sure. Favorite destinations seem to be NC, SC, Florida and Tennessee.

Another place is Ohio. I think it's got something to do with all the church colleges around here. Whenever the kids come in for school at Lee University, you can always tell because there are more people driving badly, and Wal-Mart is full of kids being cheap crap for their rooms... I hate Lee kids. :smiley37:
