Hi all...'nother new guy here!

A little background on me:

I live in New Braunfels, TX. I'm a drummer of 17 years. I brew beer and have a 4 tap kegerator. I collect Atwood tools, Lum-Tec watches, and Bill Cosby records. My first car was a '68 Plymouth Satellite. My favorite outdoor activity is floating the Comal river. I got married in November to a bitchin' lady and life is good.

Why am I here?

I'm new to cigars...brand new actually. I stumbled onto the forum while trying to learn more about humidors. I've been lurking the site for all of a day, and have managed to go through the majority of the threads in the Accessories forum (yes, all 47 pages!) Here are a few things I've learned in my short 24 hours of reading here:

• When choosing a humidor, go larger then you think you really need. You will outgrow it quickly.
• Analog hygrometers are not reliable- go digital.
• Like any forum, trolls abound. Well, asshats here...gear pimps in disguise too. pH strips, anyone? Do not feed them.
• Macanudos and eBay humidors suck.
• I have many coolers- all of which I need for beer...I now have an excuse to buy another one.
• Cellophane on or off, doesn't matter.
• Expensive lighters aren't necessarily better than cheap ones.
• Xikar cutters break when dropped. They do have a great warranty though.
• The newbie sampler is one helluva deal.
• Deals on Amazon that are too good to be true most likely are.
• Purge your lighter before re-filling.
• Heartfelt beads are the way to go.
• Glasstop humidors are fine, as long as they are not in direct sunlight.
  
  and last but not least:
  
• Respect the FOGs and you will get respect in return.

Welcome to the forum! I have a couple of Atwood tools myself. I got a MetWrench off of ebay a few weeks back and just snagged a Brass Whistle on Sunday. I finally got in on a buy! I really want to get a hold of a Prybaby for my key chain... one of these days.

I know what you mean! You've got to have lucky timing to get in on a buy...eBay is a good source, but folks gouge prices too much! :smiley7: Let me look in my collection...if i have an extra prybaby i can part with, I'll let you know! Those are great..though my new favorite is the raw bar ghost I've got on my keychain now.. Those whistles are great too...but what I'm really looking forward to is the new Daces!

That Ghost looks nice. I've got a Gerber Shard on the keychain right now. I kind of the pry action. Got to admit though, it looks tiny and I bet you can do some minor prying with that flat head.

It would be bad ass if he could design some sort of cigar tool.

Hex, you're right! A cigar tool of some sort would be SUPER cool...an Atwood Cigar Tool? That'd be nuts...I'm sure he could atleast incorporate a punch or something...I'll shoot him an email :smiley20: Those dace's are pretty cool, as well as the snakebites. I've yet to be able to nab a bladed tool, usually the price steers me away from them, but if I had the chance I'd grab one just to have it in the collection...

Welcome to the board from W. Tennessee. I'll be your way the second week of April for vacation...maybe we can have a smoke together. One of our other members, NDV21 (Nelson) is in S.A. hope to see him too when I get down there.

Where are you staying? New Braunfels? San Antonio?

SA...Peartree out by the airport...more of the wife's vacation than mine, she's wanting to see some of the festival stuff, parade of flowers or something like that:smiley13:

Yeah...sounds like you guys are coming during Fiesta? Not sure...one of the local SA guys could give more detail...being from NB, I don't know too much about events in SA. It's a fun city...lots to do. Same with New Braunfels.:smiley20:

"I have thought about a cigar tool in the past. What I wanted to do rather than make a cutter would be to make a punch tool. However, the design I have in mind is a little different than one normally sees...I may look into it further in the future but for right now it's on the back burner.

I homebrew as well, just a simple extract plus specialty grains to flip-top bottles set up.

thanks! Same here...I'm having too much fun with extract at the time to change my setup. I brewed with a buddy of mine that does all grain batches and from start up to clean down it took us EIGHT hours! :smiley6:

I can knock out an extract batch and clean the gear in 3 or 4, then have more time for drinking... :smiley36:

I'll do an extract with grains from time to time when I'm short of time but I like getting ten gallons for the same price as five gallons of extract and grains.

I hear ya! That would be the reason for me to switch over (when I do), but right now I don't have the space for a bigger setup. Ten gallon batches would make it worth it... What do you brew in? Keggles?

All grain is brewed in keggles and 5-gallon extract & grains is brewed in my 32-quart turkey fryer.

See that's what I'm talkin' about! I'd love to have a batch so big that I need a keggle...:smiley20:

How long have you been doin' all grain?

Off and on for 3 years. Most of my stuff was stolen or destroyed in 2009 and I've been rebuilding slowly. My brewery is makeshift right now but right now I'm working on a brewcart.
