Uneven burn after ash

Seems like lately my cigars have burned this way once the ash falls off.

Why would one side burn that much faster. Normally it is after the first ash.. Inch or more.

How might that happen? Is there a way to fix it? Just seems really recent. The last 3-6 cigars I had were that way.

Were those all from your humi? Changing seasons/weather? maybe...*shrugs shoulders*

And a JLP isn't the best example.

Yes all from my humi. Weather/temp hasn't changed that much.

I don't remember the last ones I had. I meant to do it before. Just always forgot about it.

I just changed the set up in the humi.. Well mixed around the sticks yesterday.

any kind of wind outside? I get this when I hold my cigar too close to the window when I smoke in the car, the draft makes one side burn a whole lot faster than the other.
Also, what are you using for humidity in you humi?

Try turning your cigars 45 to 90 degrees every now and then while smoking.
Some times they just burn uneven.

Very well could be wind. I try to hide in the garage but it has been windy as hell lately. My source is humi care.

No clue what the room RH is.. Humi says 68f with 67rh.

I turn them as I smoke.

You're letting the ash fall off on its own, right, not flicking or more than minimally tapping it?

When you notice it to burn uneven, try rotating the stick so that the part that needs to catch up is on the bottom. May seem counter-intuitive, but there is more oxygen below the cigar (as the fire hasn't consumed as much of it as it rises) so it will burn faster there.

Try giving the stick a slow steady purge, while rotating it. That should even it out.

I noticed that you have shown us uneven burn and that the cigar is in its last third. In my experience I have noticed that many cigars seem to burn uneven during the last third. Do you have the burn issues the whole way through the stick or just near the end?

The Trinidad was in the beginning. Most of them are in the 2/3 or 3/3. Mainly I notice it is the 2/3 point.

Damn... Right over my head on that one:smiley6:

But, maybe.. Just maybe, If I try it with the cello on.. The melted plastic might help burn it even.. Almost like a seal?

The most common cause of the problem is moisture conditions. It is late winter in much of the world and it is dry in late winter.

Gary can't look at his local weather and tell us what the ambient RH is. Therefore we don't know if it is dry where he smokes.

This is a new problem, so it isn't Gary's smoking technique.

Thus, another possibility is Gary has an eBay-type special humidor with 'Spanish cedar' trays (veneer on pressboard). Uncello'd singles in such a humi could show that pattern - cello'd will take months instead of weeks for a similar impact. (Cello is porous as Badwhale says, but cello also slows the rate of transfer of vapour (and aging).)

In all cases the solution is the same - use a lighter and touch the cigar up ...

Smoked a BrickHouse Churchill last night, ( nice smoke) and it was good. Maybe it is just them. I know this one I was able to smoke, for sure slower than the rest of them.
