Hello all! Since a young age, I've enjoyed the smell of cigars, especially in humidors and while burning. I've smoked plenty of cheap stuff and last summer I tried a punch cigar which was too strong. I felt nauseated and got a headache, and haven't smoked since. Now, I'm ready for round 2, but need something at my level.
I've collected lighters for years, and I have the other essentials ready. I just need the cigar!

Your best bet would be to ask your local tobacconist.
But trying some 'milder' smokes might be a better option. Also, think smaller, shorter smokes, like robustos, or smaller. This won't always help, but it might a little. I'm totally drawing a blank on examples of milder smokes. But use the search option found in this forum - this question has been asked before.
Other advice: eat something beforehand. Have something to drink with it. Don't constantly puff, unless you have a tight draw, then you'd need to - which in and of itself could cause a headache due to the strain of getting smoke through. Again, a tobacconist can help you with this choice.
Welcome to the board from central Oregon.
Some tips for you:
- Avoid cigar stores that also sell glass pipes and tie dyed clothing.
- Avoid buying your cigars at a drug store or a gas station.
- Only deal with cigar stores that only sell cigars and cigar smoking accessories ("true" tobacconist).
- Avoid any cigar that looks remotely like it was made through a mechanical process.
- Avoid cigars that are contained in a pretty colored plastic tube.
- A true tobacconist will ask insightful questions about likes/dislikes and will only recommend cigars that fit that profile.
- Ask the tobacconist to steer you away from cigars that are "full flavored" or "full bodied".
- Avoid any cigar that say, "ligero" or especially "triple ligero" - you're likely to end up on the floor.
Bottom line - there's plenty of cigars out there you will enjoy without having to hug the porcelain throne.

I just got an email from Holts offering 5 Rocky Patel cigars for $19.95 with free shipping. Not a bad deal on entry level cigars. Might go to their website and check on it.

Hmmm... I do like the Padron 45th's price... And I agree it is a pretty doggone light smoke. But - I've never been able to finish it quickly. Maybe because I just get lost in that haze around smoking such a great cigar!!! :smiley37:Quote:

not sure if your still looking at this but some of my favorite so far, as I am a newer smoker as well, are the rocky Patel vintage 1999, NuB Connecticut, and the Padron 2000.

To ease into things...try Rocky Patel Connecticuts or a Macanudo
The LFD Chisel and Joya de Nicaragua Antano are REALLY good and smooth but pretty full bodied for a beginner...if you haven't eaten or are new to full bodied cigars you will get your behind kicked. I prefer full bodied cigars and I'm used to them but if I smoke an Antano with an empty stomach even I will get alittle buzzed.
