ISOM Alternatives?

Hi,

Given that I live in the UK and ISOMs are easy to get hold of, that is what I usually smoke. I will be visiting the USA (MD and upstate NY) in a couple of weeks :smiley17: and I am wondering what cigars available there will be equivalent to what I smoke at the moment.

Right now my favoured cigars are:
Cohiba Siglo 1 & Robusto
Montecristo #2
San Crystobal Fuerza & Principe
Punch Punch Punch
RyJ Coronitas Cedro

Given that I like these, what would you guys suggest from the branda that are availabkle in the US? :smiley16:

Get the address of where your staying. Buy your cubans at home, swap the band with some non-cubans and fed-ex them to yourself.

To be honest, I was looking at expanding my horizons. ISOM may be easy to get over here but they sure aren't cheap. For example the Siglo 1s (Perla) are about £140 :smiley19: a 25 cnt box even when I get them from Spain or Portugal. So you could say that I am looking at capitalising on the strength of the pound at the moment and saving some money.
Ideally I want to bring 50-100 sticks home with me.

I would invest in the Punch or the Romeo y Julieta. Also, Hoyo De Monterrey are a fav.

Let me suggest Padron Anniv, Perdomo Reserve La Tradicion Champagne. My first reccomendation would be Luna de Luna but they are the best LaLuna cigars that you cannot get. :smiley31:

Why oh why use this "ISOM" thing? Why not call them "Cubans"? They may be banned in the US but surely not the name! :smiley22:

Yeah I would try different Perdomo's, Padron's and an Opus, if you can find them. If you get into the opus or the anniv. Padrons they will end up costing at least if not more than cubans at home.

Just trying to be polite, as a newbie :smiley23: I don't want to step out line if I can help it. To be honest the term confused me to begin with, had to check a glossary .

What sort of prices are we talking about for the suggested sticks?

The average perdomo and padron should be under 10, the 1964 anniv around 15-16, the 1926 anniv will probably run in the $20's and the Opus, I have seen those from 12 to 30 depending on the size.

But, as with most goods, depends on supply and demand in the market your buying them in. If you getting them at the only cigar shop in a couple hundred miles you wiil pay more than if there are a few in the same town.

The 1926s DO NOT have the word "Anniversary" in their name. The proper name is "Padron 1926 Serie"

Opus X, Padron 1964 Anniversary & Padron 1926 Serie, and Davidoff are all very hard to find but these are the four brands I recommend that you look for.

Where exactly will you be staying in the states? Because we'll need to direct you to certain cigar shops if you're going to be trying to purchase those hard to get cigars.

Oh and as far as the whole "ISOM" thing, there are many cigar boards out there that absolutely despise that slang term and members of those boards tear into people who call Cuban cigars "ISOMs" I prefer to call them "Cuban cigars" of "Havanas"

I stand corrected. When I see them on sites for sale they generally say anniversary but after further review I must confess I was wrong.

LOL, actualy nhcigar, I didn't mean to put you on the spot at all or try to show off that I'm some freaking expert :smiley29: . It was a little "experiment" :smiley2: I said the same thing on CigarPass to a guy who made the same mistake (and this jerkoff runs a CIGAR STORE :smiley3: ) so CLICK HERE to see how this guy reacted. I was 99.99% certain that my similar post here would have drawn a reasonable reaction from you and not the one that this asswipe on CigarPass had.

It was kinda funny to watch it all unfold though.... :smiley36:

What gets me about this guy is this was the THRID time he started a thread in order to get people talking about something he sells (he's one of the paid sponsors of CigarPass) which I think is underhanded and devious.

Hey CC, thanks for the advice. I have to say that I love my Cubans and nothing makes me happier than puffing on a decent Havana, just didn't want to break with the proper etiquete(sp?), especially with bad kittys cats :smiley15: like you around. Seriously though, thanks for the advice :smiley20: .

I like the sound of some of the sticks you guys are suggesting, and going by my prefered etailer's prices, I still think that I would be getting a bargain :smiley1: on the premium smokes. The price of the Davidoffs makes my brain hurt.

As to where exactly I will be, in MD it will be around Gaithersburg, though I plan to make a couple of trips into DC. In NY I will be around Rochester and Canandaigua (family summer house). Excuse the spelling on place names

BTW: Always wanted a Jag, XJ8 by preference

I LOVE those XJ8s :smiley20: I'd actually like to get an 88-91 XJS convertible sometime. They changed them in '92 and IMO they got kinda ugly :smiley6:

We'll check with some members here and on other sites as to where some of the best shops in those areas are so you can get some of the nice smokes :smiley20: I know many guys on other sites who live in the DC area and one great guy (Moki) who's in Rochester, NY

Many of us envy you being able to get Havanas LEGALLY unlike us poor souls here :smiley19:

One of these days, I'd love to travel to the UK to visit the Jaguar factory. They're closing the main plant in Coventry this year so I'll have to figure out where they're moving most of the manufaturing to.

While there are a lot of Cuban Alternatives, if you try to get other alternatives, while there are a few good ones, you will likely be disappointed by many.

Personally, I recommend Opus X, they are complex like Cubans.

Grab a couple of perdomo estate selection cameroons. I have been on a kick with those for a couple of weeks. Try one before you buy a lot, they are pretty strong.

The unbanded Pyramides are La Flor Dominicana Grande Maduro: Cabinet Selection # 6 (I look forward to sharing my thoughts on these). The ones that look like MC #4 are Tatuaje Noellas.
