Big Cajones Tonight - Purchased an Opus X

What's up guys,

Thought I'd stir up a little conversation tonight (and really show my newbieness). I went ahead and tried my first auction today and decided to grow some cajones and bid on a SINGLE OPUS X (I'm going to hell for reading all these helpful posts on here that have made me curious about certain cigars).

Just checked my e-mail and it looks like I won. After shipping, it's going to cost me around $23 it looks like. Did I just get my :smiley35: handed to me for doing this (meaning, did I pay too much)?

MSRP is estimated at $9.50 each. And yes, you can find them for close tto MSRP , if you do a little research.

Only time I'v seen them locally they were around $35 so it sounds like a decent price to me.

A Fuente Fuente Opus X Fuente Fuente should run you about $13.00 with California taxes.

did a search but the cheapest i could find it was 28 bucks. you got a little dl price on us hugh? working for the mob. get us the hook up man. :smiley20: :smiley4:

Opus X sources are as valuable as trustworthy cuban sources. :smiley2:

I've paid $30 a pop in Las Vegas.... And they sell for about $60 Canadian here. :smiley3:

I have no sources, I suck. But, if you hook me up with some info I promise to enjoy the smoke how would that be. heck I'll even blow some of it in your direction. Great deal or what. :smiley36: :smiley37:

I've bought them at the local shop for $18-$23 depending on size. I wish they could be had for $10 a stick, hell I'd smoke alot more of em!

Do yourself a favor and let it sit in the humi for a while. Not necesarily because it needs age, although I hear they do benefit, but because you're likely not experienced enough to enjoy it.

That's why I haven't sought one out.

I smoked a Hemingway Short Story a few weeks back and realized that, although I really enjoyed it, there was a lot more flavour I was missing because it was a stronger smoke than I'm used to... So I imagine an Opus X would just be a waste for me.

I would recommend letting it sit awhile as well, the couple times I've attempted to smoke an Opus shortly after purchase, it burned very uneven and wouldn't stay lit. It may have been a humidity issue, but these are also very oily cigars. A few weeks of rest in your humi should do them well.

Ouch! Not sure where you gents are getting your OpusX's, but HughJordan is right - MSRP is around $10 a stick -- and you ought to be able to find them somewhere in that range. Double or triple that price and you're definitely having your :smiley35: handed to you. Your :smiley35: and your :smiley35: and your :smiley35: , too.

I recently bought a couple at a nearby smoke shop (Nashville, TN ... place called UpTown's in Green Hills, if anyone's local) and paid $11.00 each.

Just one catch: many shop owners will only let you buy a limited supply (unless you're really buddies or something). They only let me buy two ... although I could have gone back and bought two the next day.

And yeah, let 'em sit. Mine have been buried at the bottom of the humi for a few months already. Until I find a steady supply, they're gonna stay there, too.

you guys with your 11 dolar opus x's you think you got a good deal i'll bet. well damnit you did. get us the hookup. any online vendors got them around that price?

On another board it was said that a good Opus source was held as close as a good cuban source. :smiley5:

There are many place online listing them for around $30 too. The :smiley35:. When the time comes for me to buy like crazy the $10 Opus sites are sure to be near the top of my list to find, because I'm sure if I could even find them locally ( :smiley36: ) they'd be way over MSRP.

i'm not an opus x fan...you could have bought two vsg's....i think they're the best thing that fuente makes....but that's just my opinion...

i'm not a big opus fan either, but i think their best is DC Maximus. mmmmm mmmmmm!

Here in Canada I have seen them from $55 to $70 a stick...... :smiley21:

so with all that said godfather I would say that since you aren't Hugh or Jake it seems you got an ok deal.

along the cigar buying line, I stopped at Tabacco Hut today and picked myself up a few.

never tried them so you never know. mayhaps I will love them. gotta try em anyway right? different strokes and all that. thanks for the suggestions gonna have to try me some of the ones you recomended too now.

Very pleased with my deal though. humidor was looking a bit bare now it looks great. i love looking in the thing just gives me a little thrill haha. I'm a wierdo.

I suggest you also give the Toranos a try. My favorite is the 1959 Exodus Double Corona but The Reserva Selectais a good smoke as well.
If you want lighter try the Casa Torano.

My Opus X just arrived today and is going straight into my humidor. It'll probably get smoked when I have a little more experience under my belt. Boy did they package the hell out of this one :).

Iv been buying them for $15 at my local..is there a different kind or something? 23$ sounds really expensive.

Oh happy day!! I went to my local cigar shop, as I usually do on Sat. PM's, and bought a modest selection. On my way out, on a whim, I asked the young fellow who was minding the store if he had any OpusX's. He gave me a Chershire cat like grin and said he had two. To make a long story short, he now has none. I paid 15.00 ea. They are now in my hummi; I suspect not for long. Detailed report at a later date.

I picked up 2 Opus X and 2 Diamond Crown Maximus at the Fuentas Toast Across America and the money was being donated to the family foundation for projects in the Dominican Republic and hurricane Katrina victims. As well as a great night with BOTL and SOTL. It was like the cigars are free.Evidently a unique blend just for the participants. 2 cigar shops in each state hosted. They are buried in my humidor either to be smoked or sold in Canada to put my kids through college.
