I'd vote for him just on his "De-wussication" platform. :)
It'd be weird to see Texas leading the charge on Bio-Diesel, though...
Kinky has got my vote :smiley20: De-wussification, classic. His real selling point is bio-diesel though, that stuff is sweet! Although, I will say, once it catches on, Illinois will lead in production since it is the world's largest producer of soy.
Rock, rock on Kinky
I saw a short interview with him probably about a month ago on Real Time. If I lived down there I'd vote for him. Seemed like quite a character.
I've heard a little about Kinky before. I've liked what I've seen so far. From everything I've heard and seen, Texas politics is in desperate need of a realignment and Kinky could be just what the doctor ordered if given the chance.
Being from Iowa farm country, I'm also encouraged by the long-term prospects of biodiesel...and ethanol. But thus far, I must admit the benefits of the two fuels are being oversold to the public. I don't know the logistics of biodiesel, but with ethanol, you may be interested to find out that 1.3 gallons of oil are burned through in the production of one gallon of ethanol. Now, this ratio is likely to decline as improved technology makes ethanol production more efficient, but for the moment, I roll my eyes every time I hear local corn growers groups talk about how ethanol is making us "less dependent on foreign energy sources." That may be the endgame, and it's definitely one worth pursuing, but we ain't there yet by a long sight.
Make Biodiesel at home!
You can make your own biodeisel if you want. I don't recommend it though. Dangerous caustic chemicals (Sodium Hydroxide, otherwise known as Lye, and Methanol) are used.

I like Kinky for two very important reasons:
1) he's not Rick Perry, and
2) he's a big cigar smoker.
Amanda, you're right on with ethanol, but I don't think things will ever get better. The enormous production costs that go into making ethanol viable in fuel are exorbitant, it's like you said, oil has to be burned just to produce it. Bio-diesel I think will be the future, 2 easy to make chemicals added to soy oil, or any kind of agricultural oil, and BAM (a la Emeril, not explosion), fuel. Besides, America needs to get off it's unleaded, refined fuel kick. Gasoline engines are crap compared to the longevity of a diesel. If Honda can make their gas engines go 200000 miles, you should see what their diesels can do.

There's a certain amount of public perception and advertising that goes along with fuels, as well.Quote:

The trade-off with hybrid cars is weight. It's cute to want to use an electric engine, but the reality is you have to make a car with 2 engines... AND a bunch of heavy lead-acid batteries to run that electric motor. Hmm. That's a lot of extra weight.
We could (and have) made purely gasoline vehicles with better gas mileage than hybrid vehicles (and from what I hear, hybrid cars don't often hit those advertised mpg numbers). But hybrids will continue to be popular because they APPEAR to be more eco-friendly.
And don't even get me started on plastic vs. sheet steel body panels. :)

independent, what's wrong, couldn't face the fact he's a democrat? :smiley36:

Enjoy the first KinkytoonTM!
We don't have Rick Perry or Carole Strayhorn money to get our message out, so we're putting our ad online and counting on you to spread the word. Please distribute the ad to friends and family so that it spreads like a bad rumor.
That was cool. I'd vote for him if it was my state.

Don't be silly, his family moved to Texas before he was five years old. He's essentially a lifelong resident of the state of Texas, ever notice his accent? It's NOT a Connecticut accent that's for sure.Quote:

How do you figure Tennessee was Gore's adopted home state? Go look up where he was born and which state he represented in Congress for almost 30 years and get back to us okay?
I always enjoy raising Republican blood pressure with the "Bush's home state is Connecticut" howler. A significant political realignment took place in Tennessee during the 1990s, and I wasn't at all surprised Gore lost. For decades, Tennessee's moderate politics more closely mirrored that of Arkansas. Now it's moved closer to the arch-conservatism of its neighbors to the South, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. A Democrat probably can't win a national election in any of these states for the foreseeable future....just as a Republican probably can't win a national election anywhere in the northeast (except maybe New Hampshire) for the foreseeable future.
Not so much.Quote:

I would have liked to see a manual recount myself. I don't often agree with the general population, but I do believe that in a democracy such as ours, the will of the people should be law, not the will of legislators.
If the votes were properly recounted, the will of the people would be done, regardless of the outcome. Chances are, yes, Bush would have won either way. However, it would have been nice to see that the people had their say.
CC, I was referring to Washington, DC as Gore's adopted home state since Gore hadn't lived in Tennessee since the early 1980's.
Funny, I thought Texas was in the south, not Maine....Quote:

He may have a cowboy hat, but that doesn't make him from Texas.
Can we get this thread back to the Texas gubernatorial race please?
As Kinky correctly points out in his first Kinkytoon, choosing between Democrat and Republican in Texas is like choosing between paper or plastic.
Paper: Ah looove babies!--and Jee-zuz!
Plastic: Ah looove tax cuts!--and JAY-sus!
California elected Ahh-nold, Minnesota elected Hulk Hogan.
Can Texas elect Kinky Friedman, why the hell not?
Actually, Minnesota elected Jesse Ventura, not Hulk Hogan.
I never knew DC was a stateQuote:

Good for him. Patrician stuffed shirt corporate whore that he is.Quote:

You're bordering on the ridiculous again. :smiley36: So in your mind EVERY US Congressman and US Senator ceases to be from the state that elected them because they have a second residence in Washington DC? :smiley36: :smiley36:Quote:

CC, any normal interpretation of my post, Republican or Democrat, would generate a lighthearted smile. It was clearly all in good fun, as was the throwaway comment about raising Republican blood pressure. If you choose to arch your back and start hissing at me like you do everyone else here, that's your choice. But be warned....this kitty scratches back. :smiley2:
Ya know, you're pulling your BS again and it's getting real old REAL fast. I love your back peddling "Aw gee gosh golly, it was just all in good fun" sorry young lady, that dog won't hunt. You admit you post a trolling comment and laugh about how you love to "raise blood pressure." This is just like Scroto posting that "Opus X sucks....." because he knows what kind of reaction that will generate. :smiley29:Quote:

So how 'bout ya knock off the trolling and the ridiculous statement like "everyone" and the smart-assed "hissing" $hit, ya "get it"?
You guys enjoy flirting. I started another thread.
