Agree bro,get the 65% rh ones . Viper(Heartfelt) is a good dude.
you may also think about getting the bags to put beads in. I kind of wish i had done that now.
word.
I'm ordering a pound of 65% for my new cooler and two 1/2 pound bags.
Viper posts on some of the boards. Does he visit here? I bought some of the beads and they work great.
I also tried the kitty beads. They work great, too. I recommend the Heartfelt ones from Viper, though.
Check out the Heartfelt website for instructions.
I add DISTILLED water until they are about half soaked. Check the beads for several days. If they seem to have dried out quite a bit, add back to the same level you previously wet them. You're good to go for weeks. Just keep an eye on them and never add anything except distilled water. Presto! 65% humidity.
The beads probably should be replaced after a few years, though some people think they will last indefinitely.
I bought the Heartfelt beads in the tubes and they work great I just used a spray bottle and some distilled water snd they do just what they are supposed to
Yeah Viper visits here and is very polite and professional, so comes highly recommended. What size humidor do you have? For like 100 cigar or less, I'd go with the aluminum block or tubes, but if you have a cabinet or coolidor, I'd just buy the beads.
here's another suggestion I was turned on to. Odor Less Cat Litter from Petsmart. Contains only Silica beads.
I have a 75ct desktop humi, which is doing just fine at 68% with a traditional rectangle green foam type humidifier. But im in the process of putting together a cooli, just waiting on some SP cedar to come in, and researching humidification (is that a word?) for it... looks like the HF beads are the ticket. Once i get everything together ill post a few photos. :smiley20:
Yep. I've tried both and the Heartfelt beads are what I recommend. I've experienced sudden drops in RH with the kitty beads for no apparent reason. That hasn't happened with the Heartfelt kind. Less distilled water to maintain RH in my experience. What I want is to "set it and forget it."
Your mileage... blah, blah, blah.
alright alright. i ordered some heartfelt beads. 65%. geez. :smiley18:
:smiley2:
"Ya done good," as my old English teacher used to say.
got my bead tube and hygometer in today. both are working beautifully.
Now I know ...
*group
AND KNOWING'S HALF THE BATTLE !
guess i need to get a credit card..unless viper will take checks through the mail or i give him the info through the phone...ritw now im using humipaks and drymistats
Does anyone sell Humidipucks and Heartfelt bead tubes?? Trying to save on shipping cost.
My humi with a 65% Humidipuck dropped to 60% the other day. I opened the puck and all the beads were dry. I re-wet the sponge and although it took a few days, I'm back up to 65%. These things work, I'm convinced.
Must say, my X-treme 15 with it's little piece of green foam maintains 65% with very little effort.
i just received my 2 oz tube of beads today. my small coolador was around 75% at 68 degrees. how long should it take for the humidity to come down? also when i need to rewet the tube should i open it up and spray the inside with distilled water or the outside of the tube?
Come down to what, 70 or 65? Either way, shouldn't take long, maybe a few days at the most. I have a tube as well and I've never sprayed it. I just pour a small amount of water in the ends by removing the red cap. I use the cap off the jug of distilled water I have and it works fine. I think spraying is best if you have loose beads in like a bowl or stocking. But to answer your question I don't think it matters, but spraying the outside would probably work best to cover the most beads.
Received mine yesterday and set up last night. Looks like the Little Havana hygrometer was way out of wack (reading +10 or so). Cracked open the standard humidifiers that I had and replaced the oasis. Put a 4oz tube in the cooler, have placed a new hygrometer in tupperware and ziplock bag with a bowl of beads to calibrate. I will probably also replace the gel from my madelaine pots with beads tonight.
Will let you all know how it goes.
sorry bout that, i got the 65% beads, i checked it this morning. i moved it to a warmer spot so its reading 71 degrees and 72%. my hygrometer might be out of wack, its a really cheap digital one.
Just performed salt test and new hygrometer reads 75%, old little Havana reading 83%, urgh, looks like I have been panicking for nothing.
Still, now that I have the beads I will hacve less to worry about.
OK, you guys talked me into it, I'm goin beads. I'm sick of chasing the humi up and down.
