take smokes home for summer, and face wrath of mom or...

ok.. so ive been smoking 2-4 cigars a week all semester... the semester is almost over and I'm heading to my parents place for most of the summer...

ive got 2 main options...

leave the smokes with a friend that i trust to keep an eye on the humidity and not smoke very many... ive got a couple friends that would be willing to do this for me...

or

I can take the smokes home with me... my dad will take the attitude of "everything in moderation/ theres worse things you could be doing" and my mom would be extremely mad... my sister who is about to leave for college doesnt think my mom would be very upset... I disagree...

i just cant decide... what do y'all think i should do with my smokes for my summer break?

The best way to get an in is to take them home, but buy a 5-pack sampler to bring home to pops and introduce him to why you enjoy the hobby. If he's smoking with you, there's little mom can do, especially cause she'll see it as a great bonding point for you and him.

Jstrider . . . how old are you? Are your parents paying for college? If so then keep the folks happy and leave them at home. Possibly bring it up casually when you are there and get a better feel for your mother's reaction.

Sure send Dad a sample pack and you will both be in the hot seat with mom :smiley2:

Also a couple suggestions . . .

How well do you know your local tobacconist? I am sure that if I told my guy that I was going out of town for a month or so and needed to borrow or rent some humidor space he would be happy to accomodate me - even though he does not provide this as a normal service.

Do you have a humidor? If so buy some Humi-Care or some of those beads. I believe (and someoen please correct me if I am wrong) that once charged that they will last for a couple months without issue. I am not sure if keeping the Humi closed for that long will cause some additonal problems - a good question for those here that are more knowledgeable.

If she really has a rabid hatred of smoking then you're probably best served by leaving everything with a buddy. I had a girlfriend who would leave the lid to my box open all day when I wasn't home. Or if it's just the smell and the inconvenience of having it in the house try being more considerate by smoking outside and maybe even offering her one. I know a lot of women who are into cigars.

I second Drake's idea, that would be an absolute riot. In all seriousness, do what I do-tell your mother that you just collect them. Tell her it's like baseball cards for adults and that if you smoke them, then the value obviously decreases. When she finds butts around the yard, do what I do and blame it on your worthless brother in law from Kansas. This works very well for me, I haven't heard another health lecture in eight months since I've done this. :smiley20: :smiley16:

my dad used to smoke a pipe occasionally when and for a little while after he got out...

i'm not sure why or exactly when he stopped... just that it was before I was born...

My mom was that gullible, too. When i was in 11th grade she found an ounce of weed in my room..I was able to convince her it was a bag of indian tea leaves that i was giving to my friend as a gift.

Yeah, had. I'm also into motorcycles and she started to complain that I loved the bike more than her. She was right. I get to ride the bike all I want and it doesn't give me any lip. Wound up getting rid of the girl and buying another bike.

I say bring them home walk in and put them down on the table. When your mom freaks and starts yelling just close your eyes, put up your hand in the stop manner and calmly tell her to be quiet and go cook you dinner. That should take care of the cigar issue.

LOL-That it is Bill. I informed him last weekend that he's taking the fall for the cigars in my yard. I'm 30 and still don't want to hear another damn health lecture from Mom. Randy has somewhat of the same situation himself. He'll smoke out on his backyard area and when grandma is over, the kids will spend some time counting the cigar butts that he and Steve(and me when I'm over) leave around his yard. :smiley36: So what does he do? I'm 20 and have been "in the mix" for about a year. My mother doesn't know, and she is THE queen of room invasion. Anyways. I have a travel humidor for about 15 cigars that I keep in a laptop briefcase. My motto is "hidden in plain sight." It seems as though you'll be okay, but just throwing in my $.02. It works well and when she's off, lights on! I don't like sneaking around and I'll probably tell her sometime, but I'm finishing up JC and off to 4 year college... It's been long enough at home. Get a real humidor... aah. Anyhoo, Travel humidors are easy to put somewhere.

the first time i smoked in front of my mom was on the side of the road after i totaled her explorer. some jackass hit me at over 100 mph, she was in another car in front of me. i was shitting myself so i lit up and she laughed at me.

probably not the best way for you to do it though.
