Got a pretty hefty speeding ticket this morning. :smiley6: Was running late for work. Sucks. Now that probably means even longer on the toy and even longer on the cigar buying. sigh.

tsk, tsk tsk........ I pays to obey the speed limit
I pays even more to find out where the local PD likes to hang out and go make friends.
I drive 55 both way. Saves me money on gas and being on salary it doesn't matter wether I'm late or leave early.:smiley4:
Forgot, it gives me a chance to smoke a Double Corona each way.:smiley41:
So Chris, being 15 minutes late vs. the cost of your ticket...probably would have been cheaper to lose the 15 minutes of salary don't ya think?
Sucks dude. Court costs is what gets you too. That's $55 in VA alone. Get AOE and get some free cigars from me (when you beat me) LOL.
Andrew
If you were wearing your party shorts, I'm sure the officer would have given you a warning and his/her phone number.
I never exceed the legal speed limit. I'm sure that no one else here does, either. I still don't know if the Shelby will go faster than 55.
I never smoke ISOMs either.
I do both :smiley17:
Mind you I did get my first speeding ticket ever this past summer. over $350.00 CDN and points. Luckily my insurance didn't take a hit.... Its amazing how into a rythm you can get, after 4.5 years of driving at 230km/hour on the Autobahn in Germany you don't even notice if you are zooming along at 150km/h. It seems slow. :smiley26:

Plead not guilty and ask for a trial. They will make you a lower offer. Basically your not late until 7mins after the time your to clock into work.
when you get fines in the states, do you have to pay up front? I hae heard of people fetting hit with a $50 fine, and having to pul out the wallet and pey there an then, or 'go down town'
Here in Oz, we get a bit of paper, have 22 days to pay, then you get another 22 days to pay. My wife must be seeing how long this can go on for. Its ben a few months, and no reminder. Oh well, its not my licence. Guess I might get to do all the driving of the Buck :smiley20:
Get yourself a quality radar detector. It's worth every penny.
Hey Chris, If you need to look at one of those toys while your waiting just look close at my computer desk pics:smiley15: Serious though, sorry to hear that.
I dont know. I dont read chinese to good. LOL. Only name I can find on it is Soul Drum. I bought it for my daughter a couple years ago.
Timing couldnt have been worse. My daughter just came down and got nosey. And said I better not. Sorry she would kill me.
If they use laser, it's useless. And laser detectors are crap because with a laser, if the cop lases (that's a neat word) you, it's already too late.
That being said, it doesn't hurt to go to court and contest it. Sometimes they let you plea to a local ordnance which at least saves you points. Plus, if you decide to contest and the officer doesn't show (sick, retired, etc) then you walk out home free.

You don't need any drums anyway. Who do you think you are? Some little drummer boy or something?
About 90% of the time around here they are still using radar. I don't know why but maybe it is due to costs. So it's still worth it to me.
In Texas, we can take Defensive Driving to erase a ticket from our record. You can do it once every 12 months. So even when I get a ticket every 3-4 years, I just take DD.
NOT...
I've seen people actually smashing 'em while they were getting a speeding ticket... :smiley2:
I had one guy - holding a speeding ticket, had two convictions for speeding (3 in our state means "Buh-Bye" license) and I had stopped him for speeding (with his radar detector, prominently displayed on the dash, displaying all of it's bells and whistles).
Annoying when the little thing only tells you when you're about to get a ticket... :smiley36:
Great advice - except it doesn't do Chris a bit of good. Every jurisdiction is different. And some judges (depending on locality) are even miffed if you "contest it" and were guilty. You could be setting poor Chris up to weekends at hard labor (speaking of which, the wifey just woke up and I gotta go...)
I'm sure Chris has enough of a network in MS to get a handle on what he needs to do... :smiley2:
That's the best advice yet!!! :smiley20:
Sucks man, I have paid various counties in the state of michigan around 700 bucks in tickets and I have only been driving five years:smiley5: radar detectors don't hurt, mine reminds me to stop being a dumbass every time I pass a convenience store.
I got one here on Lackland which just counts for 2 points against my driving record on Lackland and I had to go and see the shirt to explain why I was doing 41 in a 35 at 0405 after a recall that I got at 0347. He just "filed" it away (after a good chuckle) and said don't let it happen again. That's it. :smiley4: If I get 12 points, then I can't drive on base. Sorry what happened Chris, hope you get that kit soon.
here in iowa if they see a radar detector it wipes out any possibility of a warning, this is no big deal if you have a bitter old cop who doesn't believe in warnings, but when a nice guy says "well i was going to give you a warning but...", it just makes you hate yourself for buying the thingQuote:
Just be careful in some states. VA for one will give you another ticket on top of your speeding ticket if you have one. They used to take them from you. At least that is what it was when my parents had a store on the KY/TN/VA border.
Think I've decided to go with this one ...

I would definately prefer mesh heads over rubber. Shouldn't be much longer and this puppy will be mine.
Thank you guys for all the advice.
That is SHARP!
Well, I did it. I ordered the set pictured above plus another drum throne and 3 pairs of sticks.
No more cigars for a while. :smiley12:
