On for me
Probably lite it with the band on and get it stoked real good, then remove the band it just gets in the way.
Jim
I voted for both... sometimes i'll smoke it with the band on untill its about to get burned then i take it off, and sometimes i take it off right away...
ive read that historically if you were smoking with a group and someone was smoking a less expensive cigar then you then you were supposed to take your band off so the guy wouldnt feel bad for being unable to afford more expensive cigars.
I generally try to keep to that... dont smoke with groups much... but when i do i follow that rule...
OFF.
Most of the cigars I smoke don't have any bands but think that will change since new CABs will have bands starting sometime in '04.
The bands get in the way so I remove them even before I light the cigar.
Can't say that I run into that problem much since nobody likes me so I only smoke alone. I don't know why though......ya think it may have something to do with my sparkling personality?Quote:

i remove it unless it seems to be sticking to the cigar. then i wait til i've smoked it for about 5 minutes and it usually come off pretty easily. i rather take it off at the beginning than it interrupt me when its getting better.
i voted that keep it on, but this is only because i smoked them before i knew that is was more proper to remove them. so, my next smokes will be smoked without the bands.
I always take it off....to particular reason i guess.
That's an excellent suggestion Drake. I'm usually too clumsy or I don't have my reading glasses on when I'm peeling the band off and when they are indeed stuck to the wrapper, I don't realize it until it's too late so if you ever see me smoking a cigar with a patch or wraper missing where the band used to be, you'll know why :smiley23:Quote:

Also for some reason I have kept the band of almost every cigar I have smoked. :smiley24:
i usually seem to leave it on until 1/3 through then take it off, sometimes it comes off easier just as drake said, plus i usually smoke past the band anyways also i save the new bands.
there was a site where you can send in bands and get points for items (sort of like cigarettes have) most of the stuff you needed alot of points then also money too, and it seemed over priced, or maybe i'm just cheap, i'll post the site later if i can remember what it was.Quote:

yeah...i saw that site...that stuff was way overpriced i think....like 200 points plus $250 for a humidor....100 points plus $40 for an ashtray... :smiley5:Quote:

I voted yes......I leave mine on.
I belive that the band is part of the whole smoking experience. Just as much as pre-light aroma, etc.
The manufacturer put effort into the design of the band whether it be simple and understated like Montecristo's band or flashy like Sosa's. I like to see it as I smoke. Not a status thing, just a preference.
Is it critical? No.......but I leave it on till the burn gets close, then I take it off.
re: "Bandwagon USA" The site where you send in cigar bands for "discounts" on merchandise - I agree, its an effort of Lew Rothman's to make you think you're getting a bargain. No offense to Lew, I think JR's is a great place to buy cigars, but the Bandwagon bit is just a gimmick to sell crap at a profit while supposedly gathering "trade information". And of course that's just my opinion.
O.K., I have a beef here. Perhaps I should've allowed for more options and what not. I guess it depends upon the kind of band that a given individual prefers. MMAB's post reminds me of that fact, as he mentioned the different characteristics of bands. I love the classy, but traditional band look of the Torano cigars. You have the family name, as well as the shield which gives it a taste of tradition. Double-banded cigars really annoy me. I think it's a bit over the top for the manufacturer to pull out onto the general cigar fan. I think the Brazilia band is rather tacky looking, kind of like driving around a hot pink BMW or something-it takes a good thing and just renders it..........to the absurd.
Overly plain bands aren't any better though. I can't stand to see a Sancho Panza band, too little effort and design went into theirs. Another simplistic one is the Padron bands, though the taste of the cigars truly make up for it!. :smiley20: Same thing goes with Graycliff-looks like some simplistic"me-generation" 80's thing IMHO.
How'd you know? :smiley3:Quote:

Has to be on for me. I agree with MMAB, I do like the aesthetic pleasure of contemplating my cigar as I smoke it. I (almost) take as much pleasure in looking at it, the way it is constructed, the size of it and the band are all part of the experience. Call me prude but you wouldn't remove your pants to smoke in public would you?
Well, unless you are in the comfort of your own home you should not submit your cigar to what you would not do yourselves! :smiley2:
It does? I can't stand the MX2 band either!. I absolutely hate double-banded cigars. Friends I smoke with even put their band on my cigar if I go in to get more coffee just to see my reaction. I hate them!(the bands) :smiley7: :smiley36:Quote:

I like to remove my pants in public quite often. It IS legal (as long as you've got undies on).
my memory sucks so i dont know what i do. i keep one band, to remember the name, and if i find a cigar i like better then i replace that band. only problem there is i usually forget if i liked it or not. the band i have now says Eileens "something" by CAO, i beleive. i think it had a sweet taste to it. but nevertheless OK :smiley25:
