Default Quite possibly the dumbest newbie question ever.....

Quick question for those cigar veterans out there.

I read a report yesterday that was commenting on Macanudo cigars. It was talking about their mild nature and stated that these cigars wouldn't leave a bad taste in your mouth or "keep you up at night". My question is this. Why would any cigar "keep you up at night"? Any idea what exactly this would be referring to?

Welcome to the board. I'm not veteran enough to answer your question with authority. The only time I have personally stayed up late because of a cigar is when the cbid auction closes late at night.

As far as macanudo's go, I never noticed them having any taste at all.

Hendu3270 - First off, there are no stupid questions. Just stupid people who ask question. (who remembers what T.V. ad line is this is from?)

And it appears stupid people also write reports. The only way a cigar will keep you up all night is if you drop it on the bed and your sheets catch on fire.

    Macanudos suck. imo

    Welcome to CS

I Have had a cigar keep me up late before, but it was my own fault for lighting a bigass 8X60 stogie at 10:30 pm

I've only smoked one macanono, not a horrible cigar, but there are many FAR better smokes available for less coin.

Thanks for the quick replys guys! And thanks for the welcomes!

Yeah I was thinking it might keep you up if you couldn't sleep because you wanted a cigar.

Welcome hendu3270! We will be glad to answer any questions we can. Most likely the reference to "keeping you up all night" suggests a very strong cigar that may give the smoker heartburn. Usually it is a combination of a big meal, and the strong cigar that creates the heartburn. Often experienced by the senior age group]

I would guess they mean you won't get a nic kick out of it, as they mentioned how mild (tasteless, lol) it is.

    Exactly.

As far as Macanudo goes, they aren't terrible but as said before they have no taste at all. Hence their popularity with new smokers. There are many mild cigars for less money than the overpriced Mac. Try a Gispert, Fonseca, Montesino or even a Baccarat, all mild cigars all less money and I think all better than the Macanudo.

Welcome from central ohio. i agree, for not too steep a price these are amazing cigars cigars, however the maduro variety are very strong IMO. I feel like Montesino's don't get very many praises on the board, i wonder why?

    Welcome from MT.

And I think the dumbest noob question I've seen on the board is usually along the lines of "Hi, I'm new to the board. Who would like to buy a box of _________???"

Hello and welcome! I think your question has been answered, as well as a few others you didn't ask

Anyway, if you want to try a great variety of quality smokes, check out the Newbie Sampler II thread.

The only thing I didn't see here was you could get sick if you smoke a powerful smoke on a empty stomach. If you are not use to the smoke that is.

    That's an awesome answer!!!!

First off welcome to the Board.

Not a stupid question at all, but to quote a former member:

Friends don't let friends smoke Macanudos!!!
I'll agree with anyone above who said if you want a mild smoke, there's plenty of cheaper smokes out there with more flavour.

Now, here comes the "Flame Bait" that may even spawn a new thread:

You want to know why (IMHO) Macanoodles are so well hyped and so pricey??

Because they probably use the same marketing company that does the work for NASCAR. I mean, how else could a race series that's famous only for loudmouths and left hand turns gain such a following???

That's got nothing to do with marketing. That was the Exchange Rate back when $3-5 million Canadian was worth $2 - 3.5 million US.

If this trend continues, they'll all want to move back north again!!!!

I've never seen the appeal in NASCAR, but at the same time I've never gone to a race. I guess I'll suspend judgment.

I want to go to one of those European rallies where they are whipping through back roads and through the center of towns and stuff. They look pretty exciting.

Just don't stand near a corner. Those guys seem to get run over alot.

Newf's right there...marketing wasn't why all the NHL teams moved south, but it is part of the reason why the NHL is going in the tank.

It certainly is a different experience in person. I've been to a lot of pro football games, and you just haven't tailgated till you've done it at a Nascar race. The power of the cars, how close they are together, all the fans.......not to mention 24oz. beers!! And you can still smoke, at least at the Kansas Speedway.

I got lucky this year and get to see the Las Vegas race the weekend of March 2nd........Casa Fuente for the first time AND the races......WOOHOO!!

We ended up at a Nascar race at MIS a few years ago and scalped tickets for great seats. 14th row from the fence, 12 seats before the Start / Finish line.

While I am not by any stretch of the imagination a NASCAR fan, it is something I think everyone should experience. I know it's cliche, but you can actually FEEL the power of those cars as they pass by. I remember feeling the hair on the back of my neck stand up when the Pace Car pulled off the track and the 48 (I think it was 48) cars went by us to start the race under full power.

However, that did not compare to the only time I'd been to an F-1 race and a BMW, a MacLaren and a Ferrari absolutely SCREAMED by us as we were standing on a walkway over the track. It was practice before qualifying and we were on our way to our seats. What a rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
