Bought a new rifle

As American citizens, I think we should all be able to purchase and own rifles as long as we don't have a record of felony criminal acts. Pistols, as much as I would like to see sold as freely, are too commonly used in crime. A waiting period and background check for these is prudent.

Surplus eastern block weapons are a good start to the shooting hobby for an economical price. The 7.62 short ammo is a good all purpose round, with decent power and accuracy. It will easily bring down most medium sized game. The ammo is cheap and readily available, and it makes a good target weapon to learn on. As long as the weapon was well maintained, it should be very reliable.

I couldn't agree more, the majority of gun crime is not due to rifles or shotguns. I am a bit on the more rediculus side though and think all autos should be banned (i mean what do you do with them other than dick around wasting ammo? not trying to be a dick, i just don't know what else you do with them. Can you use them to hunt?) and only revolvers should be sold to the public (if you can't get it done in six shots you probably shouldn't own a gun). I am being a little fecicous and over the top here, but my bottomline is they should have so many restrictions in some state to purchase guns such as rifles and shotguns.

Sorry for the thread jack, but those look like really nice guns guys. my father has a really old winchester pump that he claims was one of the greatest shotguns ever made (no clue if thats true). it was originally my grandfathers and in great condition, but heavy beyond all belief.

When you mention auto's, are you referring to FULL auto, as in machine gun? In that case the trigger is pulled once, and the magazine empties. In SEMI auto, rifle or pistol, the trigger is pulled, and one round fires, and the next round is automatically loaded into the chamber. Pull the trigger again, and one more round fires. In a handgun, the subsequent rounds require less effort to fire the next one. Just so everyone understands.
This country was founded on being able to own firearms, to defend oneself from all sorts of danger, animal and human, also to put food on the table.
I feel strongly that felons, and the mentally frail should not be able to own weapons.
Here are some of my pistols, I go through a background check on every purchase. I also have a couple of revolvers.

Wow, upon re-reading my post i messed some grammer stuff up. You are correct, i meant fully automatic weapons as shotguns and the like can be semi-auto. aslo at the end of the post, i meant to say that state should NOT have as many restrictions on buying shotguns and rifle etc. Thats just my two cents, and i am no expert on guns or the laws governing their purchase, this is just what logically makes sense to me.

on a more related not, i noticed jfellows showed us a pic of his over/under shotgun. At the risk of showing my naivety, is this a gun with two diffrent shotgun barrels (statard and modified i think are the options), or is it a shotgun over a rifle?
