I don't know much about pipes, but I know those look purdy!
Nice catches!

Very nice pipes, Dennis. That Velani is sweet! I have an old Falcon - with a Dimpled Apple bowl piece. Yours looks to be in great shape. I have yet to smoke from mine so I would like to know about your experience.

I've been smoking my pipes a lot too, especially as the wife likes the smell of some of my pipe tobaccos. I smoke mostly Va / VaPer blends with some english blends as well. Another good site is:

Ok, I scrounged up some more pipes from my Dad's basement. I think they were my grandfather's:

Nice!
A little elbow grease and those can be brought back to very nice looking, sweet smoking pipes, Will.
I've purchased a couple lots of estate pipes from ebay recently, I have so far about 80% of them that are back to smokeable status.
The bits can be cleaned by soaking them in 50-50 bleach water solution for about 15 minutes, then rinse really well. Turtle wax rubbing compound and/or polishing compound works great, I did all mine by hand, but a low RPM bench buffer would be ideal.
Cleaning out the bowls is a bit more involved, maybe google "salt alcohol pipe treatment".

I buy both estate and new. Most of my pipes are new but certain lines like Dunhill, Castello, etc...are beyond my means so if one comes up on ebay I will bid for it. I will also buy estates from my favorite carver, as he has an annual pipe that comes out and I'm trying to get the older ones for the complete set. Unless you are good at cleaning out old pipes I would suggest buying a new one. It'll take a bit of work to properly break it in but at least you'll know its clean and actually in good shape.

I've never had any Savinelli tobacco, but I do have a nice little Savinelli churchwarden pipe that gets a lot of use.
Some of my favorite tobaccos are Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader, Best Brown Flake, and XX Black Twist, (very strong, rich tobacco), Davidoff Flake Medallions, Escudo, Penzance, Erinmore Flake, Frog Morton - On The Town, MacBaren Plumcake. McClelland Blackwoods Flake...
I don't do many aromatics, but I do have a bunch of Butternut Burley from pipesandcigars.com and some Boswell blends like Christmas Cookie that I'll hit every so often.

My wife got me a Savinelli pipe and a tin of their tobacco for Christmas last year, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I've only ever smoked two different blends so far though, so I don't have a lot to compare it too.

My buddy at my local B&M has been trying to get me into pipe smoking for a few months now. I have never actually tried it but I do love the smell of the smoke. Not to steal this thread but is there any basic Dos and Don'ts about pipe smoking?

Really reasonable people to deal with. I got them to throw in a few free tins the last time I got an estate pipe. You need any help with a pipe how-to thread let me know. My current PAD is focused on the Nording Hunter Series.
