Woke up this morning, sun was shining, had the windows and the doors off the jeep, popped in a Five Finger Death Punch/Disturbed/Breaking Benjamin/ Sevendust mix and blasted to school... that's one way to wake up in the morning!

Had to go refresh my memory of this album, since the last time I listened to it was the first time I had heard it, and that was while we were moving. I really like it a lot. I checked out a few YouTube videos and her website before I committed. I'm always looking for new jazz talent that doesn't suck, which, in my opinion, is rare these days.

This is her third album (I think), and I think it's very good. It's not "smooth jazz" - and her voice reminds me more of Diana Krall than, say, Lauren Hill or Erykah Badu. While she does play the upright bass, it's more of a compliment to the music than the feature. More like Coltrane, less like Mingus. No horns - or at least not many.

Overall, I really like this album. Been listening to it pretty much nonstop since I saw your post last night.

Big music fan here, not sure why it's taken me so long to chime in...

Charles Bradley- No time for dreamin' (most likely my favorite album of the year...and it's only March)

    Aesop Rock- Labor Days

And hopefully, fingers crossed, the new Pharoah Monch album later

Steel Eye Span, Fairport Convention, Incredible String Band and Sandy Denney. Reliving my English folk rock days. Waxing nostalgic, smoking a cigar and drinking scotch.

Glad you dig it...I find it deliriously good.

If you like his back up band, pick up their album:

Menahan Street Band: Made the Road by Walking

All instrumental, and just as good

I am 2/3 into the CD and I have to exclaim this is a fucking amazing record (yes I got the vinyl in addition to the disc) The songwriting is second to none.

Also released today, is their biographical documentary DVD: The Secret to Happy Ending. I hope to find the time to watch it this week.
I picked up Go Go Boots a few days ago based strictly upon your post. I'd never heard of Drive-By Truckers before. I am now a fan. Excellent music, some deep emotion. Thanks for mentioning.
