    Default What is the ball...

What is the ball that is found in some cigar ashtrays used for? Like in the image below.

I have been searching the net for some time and cannot seem to come up with an answer, aside from showing me ball shaped ashtrays, and taking me to sites that allow me to broker ball ashtrays in bulk from china. Neither of which I am interested in.

To pick up the metal bit out of the wood bit?

(I have no idea. My ashtray says 'Yeungling' on it, but I can't find any beer...)

As craig said, it's a handle used to remove the metal ashtray from the wooden base so you can empty the ashes.

If you see an ashtray with a large, cork ball in the middle that's about 1" in diameter, can you guess what that's for?

Makes sense (the metal ball in the ashtray).

I would assume that the cork ball int he middle of the ash tray would serve the same purpose???

    Otherwise no clue.

Alright, I know what it is too, but I didn't get that knowledge honestly, because using the internets is cheating, right?

I am thinking about new poetry that has the phrase, "...wood pecker..." -- it's a synonym, right?

I assumed this was incorrect, no offence intended, but cork as a butt plug could be a dangerous proposition, since cork likes to tear rather easily. A cork butt-plug is probably a ticket to the hospital.

You forced me to do the same... so I know what it is used for now. However that has never been a method of tobacco usage for me... so I give myself a pass ;D

I have no knowledge of the suitability of cork as a butt-plug material.

I'm pretty sure it's not suitable and that is why they put that ass shield around it.

I don't even question how you have knowledge of these kinds of things any longer.

The whole purpose of the cork ball is to create the ass shield. Sleep fearlessly, my friend.

I should also note that my knowledge of butt-plugs extends only to the tail variety that my GF likes to use from time to time... I don't really like it... but if it makes her happy who am I to judge

My assertions about cork butt-plugs is not from experience with cork butt-plugs, but from other usages of cork, such as the cork on a fine bottle of whisky.
