My 870 20 gauge is getting close to 30 years old. It's also rather unique in that it has a 12 gauge stock matched to a 20 gauge barrel.

Every once in a while I think of getting something new. Then I pull it out to clean and I remember how well it's done for me over the years.

My 12 gague is also an 870, I use the factory 26" vent rib barrel for everything.

Throw in an extra full choke ready for turkey, improved cylinder and your ready for deer.

Although my 870 did have a couple Failures to Fire, it was the first time I took her out, I was shooting clay pigeons, the first shot went off without a hitch click boom, the next shot click.... silence... hmm pump it, click.... At this point I'm just kinda like then , so I remove the barrel, the fore end, and trigger group... nothing looks wrong put it back together and take it back to the firing line, click boom haven't had a problem since

Just a Glock for me -- G22, also .40. Some target shooting, but no hunting -- thinking about something to kill rabbits -- those vermin have been trashing my landscaping for the last few years. I suspect the neighbors may not approve of me opening fire...

Growing up, I had a neighbor that used a rifle to shoot chimpmunks. Any suggestions for shooting rabbits at relatively close range? Anyone have a recipe for hasenfeffer?

You know, after I posted about the choke, I thought "mabye its not automatically a 12 gauge"...

High tech sling shot? That might be fun...
Pellet Gun? I got one at a (made in China) tool sale for about 20 bucks.
22LR with a silencer?... no no better not recommend that.

I imagine a .22lr or a 22 mag would be sufficient. 410 if you aren't a very good shot.. I don't have any experience with it though.

Two of my favorite passions, firearms and cigars. I always take a good cigar with me to the range.

I have a couple of lever action .308's for hunting. A 12ga, a .410, several .22 single shot rifles, my trusty Ruger 10/22 and my Para-Ordinance 1911 .45 acp. (the GI Expert model)

I totally love that handgun! For an inexpensive .45 it works like a dream and is very accurate with a very nice trigger pull.

I've shot Glock's and wasn't all that impressed. I know they're a sturdy, reliable handgun that can be abused to no end and still work....but I've found I can shoot my .45 a whole lot more accurately. My little brother is a cop and they get issued Glock 22's in .40 cal. He brought his, and 1000 rounds up one Saturday last summer and we headed to the range. I found after about 200 rounds his Glock made my trigger finger sore. That has never happened with any handgun I've ever owned and over the years, I've had quite a few.

Also, when shooting at 25 and 50 yards, I'm a whole lot more accurate with my .45 than his Glock. Even he said (without prompting) that my trigger was a lot nicer and smoother than his. It goes without saying that if a trigger is stiffer and harder to pull, it will make you less accurate over longer distances.

I don't know that I'd buy a Glock unless it was a really, really, good deal. I'm looking at getting a Ruger bullbarrel .22 semi-auto and a Ruger single action .22/.22 magnum for my next handgun purchases.

I'm glad the larger Para-Ordinance models work well. I suspected they would since the 1911 is otherwise a tried and true design. The PO sub-compact I owned did nothing but jam (a re-engineered design). The stovepipe jams were certainly due to the recoil snapping the pistol up. Holding it tightly would reduce this problem, but it's hard to hold tight on a short grip. The feed problems were all due to the steep angle of the ramp and that's engineering.

It doesn't surprise me that your single action is more accurrate and reduced fatigue. Single action is optimal under those circumstances. The Glock trigger is a compromise. It stays in the holster safely, and comes out of the holster ready to fire. Many consider a single action to be dangerous if stored in the holster cocked and with the safety off. The Glock style trigger also helps prevent accidental discharge in a tense situation. It's also a more "idiot proof" design. Less fumbling with hammers and safeties. IMHO, it's more useful for fast response situations, such as law enforcement, where ease of use, speed of deployment, and safe handling are primary concerns.

There is a trade off of course, which is a longer trigger pull and unusual trigger design. The longer pull reduces accuracy, although training can help compensate for that. The "double" trigger safety design puts extra stress on the crease of the fingertip, which can cause chafing and irritation in long practice shoots.

Default I shoot and I smoke and I vote

I have many guns and enjoy shooting. Don't usually smoke when I am shooting, not that good of a multi-tasker. Love to talk about both though.

Not that I'm bragging but my wife loves me!

She bought me a $500.00 gift certificate for x'mas at an indoor range/gun shop in the big city. So I turned that (and a bit of cash) into a Ruger Mark III Hunter .22

My hunting partner and good friend owns two Mark I's and a (forget the brand name) single action .22/.22 magnum he brought when we went to pick mine up.

I bought a speed loader for his Mark I's last year and ordered one for myself and we blew through 1500 rounds in about 2 hours.

If you'll pardon the pun, we had a blast!

Now I really can't wait until spring is here and I can get down to my local outdoor range (safely) so I can really get some use out of this new toy.

I own a Mosin Nagant M91/30, that has a bubba'd up paint job. Also a Saiga 7.62 that I am in the process of converting.

I enjoy target shooting and deer hunting.
Hope to one day get out to Montana and do some elk hunting with my stepson.
I've got a Ruger P95 9mm, Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk 44 mag., CVA Elkhorn Pro Magnum 50 cal. muzzleloader and a Remington 30-06.

Bad intro referencing KB. I give you 5 negative points for style, and vote for an immediate ban.

I had an 870 that absolutely REFUSED to fire Winchester shell. Maybe one of ten would fire.

Now I hunt turkey with a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag. Even killed a few deer with 3" #1 buckshot through it.

I have a scoped Remington 700 in .270 for the rifle shot.

Bowtech Guardian 70# and CSS Encore 60# compound bows for when I feel like throwing sticks at deer, or possum, turkey, whatever!

And I have an older S&W .357 wheel gun with a 6" barrel that I have on my side anytime I'm hunting.
