Default Longneck bottle single cigar ashtray

I saw a home made ashtray once that caught my eye. Can't remember where, it was long before I smoked cigars. A longneck beer bottle was laid on it's side. It was melted in on the top side, and the bottom was flattened out a bit. The neck held the cigar. I'm guessing these could be made using a propane torch and a mold of some sort. I'm lacking these things and was wondering if anyone has seen these for sale?

ud have to get that glass REDICULOUSLY hot to do that, glass isnt like wax, it has to be super hot...u could maybe grind off the top half using a dremmel (with proper bits), but it would take a long time, and alot of patience

I've melted bottles like that in a camp fire before. Yes it was a very hot fire. The problem I had was keeping the bottles from cracking as they cooled down. They have to cool very slowly and I could never get it right. It's lots of fun trying though (drinking the beer).

Check with a local ceramics shop. They will probably know how (what temp) to set their furnace to melt one down. I don't think they use a mold, just lay it on it's side and let it melt. All I know is that the temp has to come up slowly and cool down slowly to keep it from cracking.
I think a Grolsch bottle would be cool. With a little adjustment you could form the wire stopper latch to hold the cigar.

That's it! Hmmmmmmmmmm.....a local ceramics shop. Doesn't sound easy to find.

That did remind me where I saw the ashtray though. In the military, they have hobby centers available for soldiers to use. They have wood shops, automotive bays, and a ceramics shop! That's where I saw it.

Try calling the Gingerbread House in South Bend. If they don't have kilns available, they may know who to talk to for your project.
Or, get ahold of the art department at the nearest college. Tell them what you want to do and I'm sure they'll loan you a kiln and an art major.

Yes, and if you want a particular bottle they don't have, send them one and they'll melt it into an ashtray for you. eBay is the way to go.
