Cigar box to humidor question

My grandfather passed away recently and some of his old cigar boxes came into my possession.
What I want to do is turn some of them into small humidors as a keep sake. I was wondering if I would able to do this with an old cigar box for one and if possible, I would like to know how. If any of you guys have done the same I would greatly love the input.

Welcome to cigarsmokers from central Oregon! In regards to your question, I guess it would depend on how well those old cigar boxes seal. Retaining humidity is a vital factor in keeping cigars properly humidified. My guess is that those old boxes 1) aren't very thick and 2) don't seal well. I guess you could put either a humidifier or beads in the cigar boxes, but that could get expensive, and if they don't close well, could make those humidification devices work really hard.

I keep a few cedar boxes on hand for a few of my cigars because I keep my humidor at what is considered to be a higher humidity (personal preference) -70%. I don't smoke very often, so when I know I will be smoking, I will put the cigar in the box, in an attempt to dry out the cigar a bit more - I think it produces more smoke at 65%. But I could be wrong, as I'm relatively new as well.............
