I will say they were smart getting Rick Rubin in on the deal, he's produced a shitload of big acts, including Slayer.

Wait a minute, when did Slayer become a big act?

Rubin also produced Cash's American Recordings, Tom Petty's Wildflowers, and a shitload of other big names (RHCP. Weezer, U2, SOAD, Beastie Boys, Run DMC)

Also been listening to some Nick Cave - this guy is a genius.

Grinderman, another Nick Cave project.

As far as Metallica, I've loved them since 5th grade when my older cousin made me a copy of Master. Even liked the black album...then they cut their hair and it was like they lost their powers.
St. Anger had potential but was IMO, one of the most poorly produced albums I've heard. The dvd does sound way better.
They may be HUGE assholes (James and Lars) but Kirk is a guitar god and James was right about Trujillo, ST rocks.
Did anyone see the Some Kind of Monster doc? I lost all respect for Lars and James as human beings, but I'll still listen to their old stuff and throw up the horns.
