Actually, it's "Early North Jersey industrial skyline..."

Springsteen, as far as I interpret it, is talking more about the rust belt than the tornado alley. Maybe just more a voice of the blue collar guy.

I absolutely agree. 100%.
"New Yersey Turnpike. Ridin' on a wet night. 'Neath the refinery's glow, out where the great black rivers flow."

Always thought that line was just visceral.
