It tells of the story of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) whose life is lived backwards in the body, but ages as normal in the mind. I knew 4 things going into this movie - the above premise, that it was originally a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, that it was almost 3 hours long, and that if I took the wife to go see this movie, I would have major leverage the next time we go to the movies.
I won't bore you with all the gritty details, but imagine part Forrest Gump, part Bridges of Madison County, part Meet Joe Black. Definitely a chick flick, but you guys won't hate it. The length is an issue. There was never a point where I was looking at my watch, wondering when it would end, but in hindsight I seriously question the inclusion of several scenes. In particular, Tilda Swinton's character and role in the movie.
We saw this movie at a rather critical time - my best friend died suddenly and unexpectedly of natural causes a week before Christmas - and we took the "make the most out of your life" edict to heart, and are trying to figure out how to walk that out in day to day life. I would recommend this movie. You might want to wait until it comes to rent, as 3 hours is an awfully long time to go in a tiny little theater chair.
