  1. Default What gives with my humidor???

Man, I'm about to just forget about this stupid humidor. My wife, for Christmas, bought me a nice engraved desktop 25 count humi for our bedroom. Shortly there after I bought a sampler from Famous and it came with a nice little cherry humi. I put both of them through the same seasoning, wet distilled sponge for a few days and then a nice bead puck in each. For the life of me, the cheap "Freebie" humi keeps the humidity at around 65 to 70 with no troubles. The nicer humi my wife bought is hard to keep it at 55 or more. I have Xikar digital hygro's in each both calibrated with salt water in the same bag. The only difference I can see is that the cheapie is solid wood and the present from my wife is a MDF type lined with spanish cedar. Do I just be nice and keep a few cigars in my desktop from my wife and use my cheapie and cooler for my good stuff???

    What would you do???

Use the wifes gift as the "on deck" box and smoke the cigars within a day or two.

Depends on your wife. Mine knows that, unless I've mentioned a specific brand and model number, any accessory she gets for any of my hobbies may well not be used for reasons she couldn't have known. As such she doesn't get her feelings hurt. Especially if to use the gift might result in damaging or ruining whatever I just spent good money on. If yours is the type to get worked up about it, I'd keep a few yard gars in the one she gave you and call it good. Of course, if you do that and tell her those sticks are anything other your dogs, you might get a box of 'em later

I knew you guys would make me feel better! I'll throw in cigars for the next couple days and call it good. How long will a cigar keep it's humidity say coming from a 65 to 70 and then to a 50% or so. Will it be good for a week or so??

That's a good question. I've never dry-boxed one for a week. I routinely dry-box for 2-3 days when pulling smokes from my cooler and it works out just right for me.

Some of the FOGs might be able to help you out with this question though.
