I'm not questioning their return policy, I'm just saying it seems like a waste of time to send it back for a cleaning.

I couldn't agree more. I prefer doing business with companies/people who believe in their products enough to warranty it the way Xikar does. A few years back I bought a dual torch lighter of theirs and a few months after purchasing, it quit sparking. I sent it in and they sent me back a brand spanking new one immediately. No muss, no fuss, no hassle, just replace it!
I like the idea of cleaning it myself simply because shipping, and the turnaround time for me (up here in Canada....eh!) and the present exchange rate make it less attractive than doing it myself with this guide. If I lived in the US, well, I'm totally lazy so I'd send it in.
I figure I'll take the laptop with me out onto the covered portion of my deck this evening (it's raining right now) and sit and clean my main Xikar cutter (I have two) while enjoying a good cigar!

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
