  1. Default A chance to get some Cuban's.......

First - let me introduce myself....
Hi - I'm Walleye*guy, just found this forum and I've been enjoying cigars on and off for 30 years....
Yes, I'm a Canuck - and from the look for the map I'm about the most northern of the group
I have a chance at some Cubans because a friend (who doesn't know the joy of a good/great cigar) is going to Havana soon. Now I have the chance to get a box of whatever I desire......
I'm thinking about ...... El Rey del Mundo Coronas de Luxe.....
Not a big cigar - but more for an afternoon with a book - doing a little fishing - before dinner with drinks - kind of thing....
so...... opening it up for opinions
(I just came back from Cuba with R&J Romeo #1's and Cohiba Siglo #4's........still have some R&J Cedros Deluxe #1's that are aging nicely.....)
I can't get too silly with the $$$$, but for about $150 CDN - I can get a box

So if you were in my shoes........

    TIA

    It depends...

If you're looking to spend $150 CDN on a box of the street stuff - you can buy an awful lot. Although I would tend to think you wouldn't be too happy...

If you're looking to spend $150 CDN on a box in the stores - you're probably going to get something like Quinteros. Vegueros or Guantanamera

Some Trinidad Reyes would be a good purchase, might be just a tad more then $150.

Because it is tied to the US$, the CUC exchange rate to the CA$ sucks right now. $150CA will get you about 100CUC. That should get you the ERdM's in Havana, and most any brand's petit corona's. To add to the suggestions, Por Larranaga Petit Corona's will be slightly less (under 90CUC), and you might like them given the other cigars that you've listed. (I normally smoke stronger cigars.)

I suggested something slightly less expensive in case your friend is going to one of the all-inclusive resorts. The prices are a bit higher there and the selection a bit more limited, etc.

Welcome to CigarSmokers! Seems to be a few Albertans here.

Why waste your money in Cuba when you have montecristonline!!! Talk with Dr. Nacho about your needs - he offers "gratuitous shipping and advising"! He might even throw in some pico de gallo!!!

Yes - the Cana-buck sucks now - eh?
The Por Larranaga's are a thought - thanks
Friend will be at an all-in, but will travel to Varadero and Havana, so access to stores will not be an issue.

As to the other comments, the Trinidads would probably be more of an after-dinner, time to savour the flavour kind of smoke, no? And if I was so inclined - I'd probably just increase my stock of Lanceros......
