Cheap "Bullet" Cutter

Well i just finished making my own bullet cutter and it cost less than 50 cents to make......what did i use you ask.....a bullet casing. If you have a rifle or know of anyone who does all you need is either a spent case(which you might want to clean before using), or an new case used for reloading. I use a .25-06 case. This means that the hole it will cut is about .25" wide. If you want a bigger/smaller hole, then find the right case. Also, because they are not really sharp enough to cut with i used a grinder wheel to sharpen the end, this could also be done with a file by slowly rotating the bullet while pulling it across the file. Another added advantage is that a rifle bullet is necked down at the cutter end so that you won't have to worry about plugging it up any time soon.

Just imagine what the poker buddies will do when you whip this cutter out of your pocket. Hope some of you can have fun with this idea.

I will have to try that with a .223 case. A case neck chamfer tool should sharpen it up, and may be alot easier than a file. But I like the idea.

Great idea! I have several gun nut friends who would love having a reason to go shooting. Did you drill out holes on the other side of the casing for a keychain mount? I don't have enough experience with ammo to know if it's strong enough for a keychain or if the wear and tear would dent it up. Either way, airport security would love it!

I just thought it might be a practical way to make your own cutter. If you want to customize your own then i say go for it. If it doesn't turn out right then you are only out a few cents. I have been using mine now for about a month and i have to say that mine is working awesomely. It stays sharp and does the job every time. If anyone else out there has some great practical ideas then I say please post away. If i come up with anything else i will be sure to let you all know.

Good idea. Brass is kinda soft though. It can be significantly hardened by heating the neck with a propane torch until cherry red. Take the torch away and just when the red glow fades, dip it in water to cool it quickly. I would recommend not holding the case with your hand.
The opposite of hardening which is annealing, will occur if you heat the neck and then let it cool slowly without water. I anneal some of my brass before loading.
