    Default Custom Computer Builders

To MarineOne: Thank you. There is no other way to express the gratitude that myself and my family feel towards men and women like you who are overseas fighting for this country. Just wanted to let you know that we support you, no matter where you go, and we will always be with you.

    Now, to a lighter topic
I really want to help my buddy build this computer so that i can know how to fix it if i break it. He had given me a list of parts to look into, but since then, my laptop has crashed, and i can't recover that list. I know we were building the whole thing from Newegg, except for the Razer mouse and a keyboard from another site. We had picked the Antec 1200 case and i think the CPU was the AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor. Basically what i am looking for is a list of the parts that i need to make the computer, a kind of second opinion from my buddy's. If anyone has any suggestions, please post them.

This is a good forum where I've found decent information and reviews on products.

Even though the title of the forum is extremeoverclocking, they seem to have a lot of good information & tips even if you're just running a stock system.

PM me if you want a good system and I'll spec it out on Newegg. The Razor mouse is a bad choice; look at the Logitech G5 instead.

And FYI, I'm a non-combatant here as I'm a civilian contractor but I am a former Marine. Being on an Army FOB, its good source of enjoyment.

Awww comon now razor makes some good equipment, pricey yes but not bad. The G5 is nice but I would still take my DeathAdder over it. It has provided me with years of good frags.

Do they work well in the Radio Shack Model IV's on a green screen?

LMAO @ Radio Shack's Model IV. Man I can remember when I picked up a Tandy 1000 from them.

I don't like the Razor's need for a claw like grip to make it work. What makes it worse is I screwed up my wrist many years ago and the Razor actually hurts me to use.

And no, I haven't tried a DX-11 card yet. I love my single GTX-285 and it plays CoD, STALKER, and Crysis better than a dual card solution can.

DX 11? Didn't they just barely get the bugs ironed out of DX 10?

The way things work these days is kind of irritating. They fix all the bugs with a dozen or more patches right before the next version is released. Multi core processors are an irritation as well. They have been out forever, and nobody programs software to use multiple process threads in order to take advantage of them.

It seems as though the quality of programming is suffering these days. The programmers themselves are generally overworked and underpaid. Something is broken that requires fixing in the industry IMHO.

Heck there are only around 30 or so games that support DX10, and I agree about the "beta" sort of atmosphere the computer industry is in now, but everyone wants everything yesterday and the companies know the quicker it gets put out, the quicker they can pump out the next big thing. Oh well, but my interest in DX11 isnt for the API but the processing power they supposedly possess without the extra electricity demand. I was just interested in the new cards out, and by saying DX11 made it shorter than listing models.

Here - let me clear up what you are trying to clear up, droz...

This post is neither an encomium of Droz nor a panegyric to his actions. Instead, it is a fact-filled reportage intended to convince you that this is a classic example of a zero-sum game. The points I plan to make in this post will sound tediously familiar to everyone who wants to free people from the spell of absenteeism that Droz has cast over them. Nevertheless, he contends that it is patriotic to saddle the economy with crippling debt and that, therefore, his opinions represent the opinions of the majority—or even a plurality. This bizarre pattern of thinking leads to strange conclusions. For example, it convinces scary vendors of philistinism (as distinct from the raving scamps who prefer to chirrup while hopping from cloud to cloud in Nephelococcygia) that Droz is a champion of liberty and individual expression. In reality, contrariwise, Droz would not hesitate to regulate totalitarianism if he felt he could benefit from doing so. Until we address this issue, we will never move beyond it.
