Default La Gloria Cubana Serie R ~ #5

    stjohnroe's Review

Smoke La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro ~ #5
    Drink(s): Yuengling Boc Beer
Tunes: Jeff Beck (Wired, Blow by Blow, Beck-O-la)

    Wrapper: Maduro
    Draw: Medium throughout
Burn: Even with small cone throughout, Runs good by itself, wavy burn but no problems.
Misc: 90-120 minute smoke, Nose exhale exhibits medium-mild burn.

Pre-light: Very dark wrapper almost Oscuro. Nice tobacco scent. Very firm to touch. Sandy texture. Non-lit flavor - none.

    Light: Good. Medium draw.

1st 3rd: Medium body. Oily flavor. Taste a lot of "oily" not overwhelming though, but dominant. Also earthy flavors. Not much aftertaste. Wavy wrapper burn, but staying even

Ash: Wavy scaly look with little smoke trail imperfection (see pic). Light gray, holds on nice out to 1 1/2"

2nd 3rd: Oily, Earthy still dominant flavors with tastes hitting on top of the tongue. Touch of spice now & something else... woodsy there. There's a tiny wrapper imperfection about 1/4" away I'm dealing with now (wrapper flaw.)

3rd 3rd: Moving into the home stretch. Oily, woodsy, earthy still there. Smooth & a more medium to full body now

Overall impression: Good, but I wish I only got a 5 or 10 spot of these, instead of a box Score: Mid 80's

I think these are pretty good. I too have had wavy burn lines and the draw is sometimes a little tight. Pretty much a straight maduro flavor the entire way through. Thanks for posting the pics. Try the DC No 4 maduro, it's a step up. Did you actually only smoke half of it?

No, you can ask BWA. I finished the nub in a pipe.

Nice review. I've had this vitola recently , although I normally go for the #6. I have to agree with everything you mentioned. This was the first cigar that took me 2 hours to smoke.

On the other hand, I'm not very fond of the rest of the LGC series. I've had a few different vitolas of both the regular and natural blends of their regular line, and they just aren't my cup of tea.

These are for sure some of the best cigars ever. Good review.
