Default The friend I have never met.

My wife is a high school art teacher and she has befriended the night janitor supervisor through the force of cupcakes and cookies. (she does this to expedite getting shit fixed in her class room). It turned out that he, Tom, is a cigar smoker. So for Christmas this past year she asked to me to give her a cigar to give to him as a gift. So, I put together a nice five pack for him to enjoy. There's been talking between my wife and Tom about us getting together with him to BBQ and smoke some cigars. Unfortunately, the time hasn't been found to do so yet.

Now keep in mind that I have never meet nor have spoken to Tom, ever. I only know of him through what my wife tells me about him. Apparently, Tom came into my restaurant yesterday to get lunch. He asked for me but I was not working at that store(I was at another pizzeria where I work as well. 5 days at one, 2 at another). Today I went to work and and one of my co-workers said, "Some guy named Tom came in yesterday and left this for you. He said that he works with your wife." As he said this he handed me what Tom had left; A copy of Cigar Magazine and a RP Vintage '92 robusto. I called my wife on my lunch break to ask her to thank Tom for me.

Tom's kind gesture really made my day. To think that someone that I have never met would actually have the thought to bring me a cigar just because he was going to eat where I worked blew my mind. Then I thought about this board and all you guys. I thought, I actually see this kind of generosity everyday here. And I don't just mean the bombs, or the "Free Cigars" thread. I'm including the brothers that run things like the Secret Santa, the Cigar Draft and even the Newbie Sampler Thread. So, with out getting all sappy, Thanks guys. You all and Tom have really made me happy to be a cigar smoker and a part of this community.

So light up and crack open and beer. Salute!

Thanks for posting. These types of stories kindle my hope that good men still exist and selfless gestures are just that, selfless and pure.
