Thread: handed out a stick

    Default handed out a stick

I work in a tire shop. I was pulling a car into the work bay when I caught out of the corner of my eye a couple gas station sticks sitting in the ashtray. Thought to myself ''another BOTL''. I went into our waiting room (where cigar smoke is very welcomed) and the customers said '' if I knew you could smoke in here I would of grabbed my Dutch Masters''. I than grabbed my travel humi and lifted the top to him. His old eyes opened up ( this gentleman was probably around 80 years young ) and he said ''nice cigars?''. I said '' they are pretty good for where we are''. I had some Punch Rothchilds, Padilla Corojo, 5 Vegas Classic, Hoyo De Monterey, and a few Rocky Patels. He scooped up a Punch Rothchild and I cut it for him and handed him a torch lighter. He looked at me and said ''whats this''. I said ''its a lighter sir''. He held it up to his freshly cut stick and pulled on it like it was giving him life. He sat down and said '' God Damn, thats a good cigar''. I told him to enjoy it and went out to set him up with some new rubbers for his Crown Vic. When I was finished with his car I saw him pull out of the lot with a quality stick hanging out his mouth and new tires. Made me smile.

Well done. The simple gestures are often the most appreciated.

    Very nice gesture Rich.

I must say that cigar smokers are some of the friendliest and most generous people that I have had the pleasure to associate with. Starting with the newbie sampler that slcraiders so generously hooked me up with to the vast amount of knowledge posted in these forums.

    A couple of additional examples:

I have started visiting my local B&M with friends once a week to smoke in their lounge. And even though we usually have something available to drink, other guests have offered us to share theirs. From home-brews to Patron.

While out recently for my wife’s birthday, a friend from the cigar shop showed up with his wife and proceeded to hand out free cigars to anyone that wanted one in our group. He then noticed another group of guys smoking Black and Mild’s and offered each of them a cigar. I don’t think he wanted to smell the Black and Mild’s anymore, lol but still, it was a nice thing to do.

Really nice gesture, man. It's always nice doing something for someone, especially if you're passionate about it as well.

Thank you everyone for the comments. It just felt nice to give the ol'timer a ''quality'' smoke. Heck.... if he stops by to have his air checked I will probably cut him another. You could almost see in his eyes what he has seen in his years and to see him enjoy a stick and smile made me smile.

Very cool. I need to come get my tires done where you work.

Talk about customer service! Great story, Rich.

Even though, he probably won't be back for another tire change soon, you've made a loyal customer out of him.

I'm sure he'll come in for tire rotations and even recommend your shop to family and friends.

    Good play!
