Port tongs. Seen any around less than $75?
I realize they are aesthetic more than anything, but I'm looking for them just the same.
I learn something new each day. Thanks for that!
Now, would you actually use the things as intended?

My wife loves entertaining. She'd really appreciate learning how those are used. She was the one to turn me on to port wines in the first place. I figured I'd practice on a few bottles of cheap wine (we have one of those little chimineas in the back for the coals, or there's always the grill), and already got the decanter.
Seeing that vintage ports aren't cheap, the cost of the tongs I've found don't justify that price. I mean, we probably wouldn't drink enough to warrant spending $75 or whatever on port tongs. But she does love her kitchen / wine accessories.......
Cool. I always wanted one of these: Link

That is cool, but I wouldn't try it with a bottle of Dom Perignon. We used to do the same thing with long neck beers. Only hold two bottles neck to neck, placing the unopened caps about midway up the neck of the opposing bottle. Holding them tightly together, quickly pull them apart while they are in contact. One of the tops will pop off just like with the champagne sabre. The other (the winner) will remain intact and you can open it conventionally by twisting off the cap. The "winner" does not have to drink out of a broken bottle and therefore does not cut his lips to shreds and bleed to death in the process. Cheers.
