Default New guy looking for suggestions

    Greetings,

I'm new to the site. I've been reading up for about a month now, and finally decided to say "Hi". Names Adam... originally from Houston, TX, living in Northern California now, and I'm currently on an extended vacation to sunny Iraq.

I've only been smoking cigars regularly for about a month now, so I'm fairly new to all the different brands and looking for some suggestions to broaden my horizon. About two years ago someone gave me a Rocky Patel Vintage (90 or 92) at a party that I really liked, so naturaly this was the first thing I tried when I decided to start smoking cigars. I branched out to other RP's, but don't know where to go from there. I'm going to make a list of what I've tried and liked/disliked and hopefully someone can give some suggestions based on this.

    Liked a lot:

    Vintage 92
    Olde World Reserve
    Decade

    Liked:

    Vintage 90
    Vintage 1999 Connecticut

    Not So Much:

    Sungrown
    Edge Corojo
An extremely dried out Cuban Cohiba from the bazaar here

I have several orders on their way, but I'm hesitant to spend too much on anything I'm not sure I'll like. On order are: a bundle of fifteen Vintage 92 Seconds, five Decade Torpedo Sumatras, a CAO Black, and two NUB's. This will all be split with a friend of mine here that I smoke with.

Sorry for the extremely long first-post. Hope to get some good suggestions, and spend a lot of time reading up. Now I just have to figure out how to explain it to the wife when I get home...

Welcome to the board. Try the newb sampler thread in the exchange, would fit the bill for you nicely I think.

    Welcome to the board.

The newb sampler seems the way to go... the only reason I haven't signed up for one yet is that I was unemployed until 2 weeks ago. I do believe that's going to change once I've gotten a full paycheck.
I have made it a rule never to smoke more that one cigar at a time.

Welcome to the boards from northern Louisiana.

I would also recommend a Newbie Sampler as well. I applaud RP's as some quality-made cigars, but there is SO much more out there. A newbie sampler would allow an experienced member to steer you in a direction of some more desirable smokes. Look into it.

    Welcome again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked out the Newbie Sampler thread and I will definately be jumping on that soon. I'm a little lacking in the humidor department right now (I have a small travel humidor with a water sponge disk thing), so I can't have too much stock, but once I smoke the stuff I've got on order I'll make a post in that thread.

Hi, I am a newb too. You should try a Padron. Nice smooth, low price entry into the cigar world.

Where you at over here in the box?

Shoot me a PM. We've got a cigar club here on my FOB and I might be able to send you some sticks. Already did this for some Marines in Ramadi ..... gotta take care of my little brothers, you know.
