Thread: Intro & Trivia Question

  1. Default Intro & Trivia Question

    Greetings all.

50, short semi balding male from Upstate NY. Cigar smoker past 20 yrs or so. Prefer the older line names like Punch, Hoyo, Partagas etc but have begrudgingly been trying newer brands after a particularly tasty Rocky Patel during a great backpacking trip in the Adirondacks last year

Been lurking a bit over the years here, decided to jump in.

Actually need a bit of help here if I may indulge you.

My Dad gave me a box of Canaria D'oro Inmensos the other day. he bought out a defunct tobacconist about a year ago. We've been enjoying a ton of Brown label Dunhills, (vs the more recent Blue label which I think has gone by the wayside as well), made in the Canary Islands, smoking wonderfully btw, nice Corona.

Can anyone give me an idea of manufacture of the brown label Dunhills or Canarias? The cellophane is a nice dark brown on the box and on the cigar wraps.

The code on the Canaria box is as follows:

Imported By Jose Escalan(ee) and Company......
the last two letters are blurred, could be "Escalante"
    Murray Hills Station NY NY.
    SU 8

I know Canaria was a "temporary" brand for the Partagas folks while they were shifting production to the DR from Jamaica. One neat thing is that this box weighs a ton!!! Everyone in the office is surprised when they take it in their hands

Thanks in advance, be interesting to get an idea of how old these are.

I plan on opening the box tonight as my 4 yr old daughter has her first day of kindergarten today...YIKES To celebrate, tonight, back porch, Canaria D'oro and a glass o' Port when the girls go to bed.

    Welcome from CT!

What part of NY are you from? I went to college at Albany and spent most weekends in various parts of the state for rugby matches. I still fly fish in the Adirondacks whenever i get the chance.

Thanks all, I'll try not to p** too many folks off.

Rugby, I'm from Syracuse. I remember playing Rugy...once. Even the promise of the boot full of beer could not get me back out there with the animals I hung with.

I have a few friends that fly fish a lot around CNY, Catskills, Ausable etc, but there are some wonderful creeks and streams right here in Onondadga County...and of course the stealthy fly guys are out there and I come stomping by with my spinning rod and Mepps ...funny, even my wife tried to get me into fly fishing. There is a great little shop just outside of Marcellus on the creek....oh well.

Anyway, gotta head out, daughters' first day in Kindergarten and I gotta see her off on the bus!!

Welcome from west Texas. Have some ex in-laws in Rhinebeck. Beautiful country - got to kick see the Adirondacks on a trip there once.

That's exciting about your daughter. Mine will cease being a teenager this month. Talk about "Yikes".

I feel for you Basil....but check my original post...I'm 50!!!!!!!!!!

At the risk of posting too often too soon, (Just read the Acid thread hoo hoo), saw daughter off fine at noon, Mamma has called 3x since 2:30 absolutely lost...now the bus is 6 minutes late....she is out of her skull....smart sucessful woman, funny to see her falling apart like this

Think I'll bring her a nice Acid cigar for the evening, paired with a fine Pink Champale.

IIRC the cigars are long out of production and are approaching 10 + years old. I smoked CdO's years ago
