Default Rocky Patel R4 ~ Torpedo

    prostartjr1738’s review

Smoke: Rocky Patel R4 ~ Torpedo
    Drink(s): Porter
    Tunes: None

    Wrapper: Nicaraguan or Honduran
    Binder: Nicaraguan / Honduran
    Filler: Nicaraguan / Honduran
    Draw: Medium to light
    Burn: Excellent
    Misc: 90+ minutes

Pre-light: Light brown. Good construction. Light tobacco scent. Not much prelight flavor.

Light: Easy. Medium to light draw

1st 3rd: Medium to light body. Medium flavor. Sweet tobacco & leather. Pretty mellow. A little burny on the nose exhale. Seems to be 1 dimensional, but a good dimension. Some spiciness in there too.

Ash: Crisp, bright white. Looks dense. Holds on for 1”

2nd 3rd: Has a nice rich flavor. Leaves a residual tobacco, oil, leather aftertaste. Pretty good, but still one dimensional. More of a medium body now.

3rd 3rd: More of the same. I just realized there has been a licorice ring in the draw throughout.

Overall impression: Pretty plain, medium to light cigar to me. Good, but just plain. Probably won’t seek these out myself.

Just plain? Have you been spoiled by the awesome flavorful goodness of FdB? I gotta quit browsing the retail catalogs... arrrr. Thanks for the review. I will cross these off the list of 'stuff to try'.

I'm a little indifferent toward these. I bought a bundle of 20 or 25 without trying them first because they were a really good price. I do enjoy them, but I wish I hadn't bought so many of them. Plenty of other stuff I'd rather fill the humidor with. If, after that, someone decides they too would like too many of these, there's a good deal going for them on Joe right now.

Maybe it's because there wasn't any music playing......

I'm indifferent on the RP's. I enjoyed the Sun Grown, way back when I started. Got turned on to the OSG's (when I could find them). Then the Decades were okay, and the Old World Reserves weren't horrible.

Oddly enough, the best RP I've smoked recently was the Legend Series - I think it's the Orange Label - not a back stick at all for the price.

I'd just as soon pass as well. Thanks for the review.

Agreed. The only RP I enjoy is the Edge corojo. The maduro is ok, too.

  8. Default Fan of RP

I'm a fan of RP and I've been wanting to try one of these; does it have any creamy notes--how would you compare it to his other mild, the '99?

    Thanks for the review...

I agree with you. I have only tried to corojo and I am yet try the maduros but I kind of like the corojo as an "end-of-day" smoke.

How about posting an introduction, with a little bit about yourself.

I didn't note any creamy notes during the review, so no. I've not smoked a '99 yet I don't believe. If I did, maybe I wasn't paying attention.

RP doesn't really hold my interest. They're just one of those for me. I like the tabac maduros & the Vintage 92s

Welcome to the board. And, yes, and intro would be nice.

The '92 and '99 are great to me; the '90 not as much and the worst cigar I've ever had was by RP, the Fuma--stay away from this stick...
