Newb - How to put out a cigar

I usually never finish any of my cigars in one sitting... So, obviously by the title, I need to learn how to put out a cigar w/o ruining it. Any advice?

Smoked an A. Fuente Cuban yesterday, I only lasted a few puffs. Was actually a very good cigar. Somehow got a small buzz. No I did not inhale.

Hey moose-
Smoke shorter cigars.

Otherwise, if you don't relight within about an hour (I'd say half hour tops, but others say hour) you are going to be smoking a nasty-ass ashtray tasting cigar.

Easiest way to put a cigar out is to set it down and let it go out on it's own

Welcome to the boards; why don't you post an intro to yourself and don't be afraid to use the search function.

It's been discussed before, but cigars shouldn't be "put out", you should let them die on their own. As for re-lighting, search that.

But if you absolutely HAVE to come back to a cigar, before you set it down, blow hard through it for about 10 seconds, this will expel any smoke that would stale the cigar, and heat up the ember to help burn off any foul tar near the foot. Set it down and let it go out on it's own. It won't be the same cigar as it was when first lit, but I do this from time to time, and I can come back a few hours later to a somewhat smokeable cigar. Your mileage may vary!

P.S. I NEVER do this with a quality cigar, if I don't have time to enjoy it fully, I'll light something of the yard-gar variety.

Just look for Robustos if you want a smaller cigar. Oliva makes shorties for some of their smokes. The Punch Champion is small as well (but then again, does last a little while)

...there should be no other way a cigar is put out. It just ain't civil otherwise!!!

LOL!!

If you are smoking inside do not smash them just let em go out! They don’t take really long to go out on their own they aren’t like cigarettes that are loaded with chemicals that keep them burning. If you need to put them out just smash the crap out of them but don’t do it indoors some cigars will put off a stench of smashed. I always have water with me pretty much no matter what I am doing I have been known to give them a hydra death to prevent forest fires.

O as others have said I would try some shorter cigars. But then I rarely smoke em down to a nub. Also I never smoke when I am in a hurry. It is kind of a chilling out thing for me when I have no plans or just relaxing after work.

Arturo Fuente Cubanitos 4 X 32
Partagas Black Label Prontos 4 X 36
Oliva G Serie 4 x 38 "one of my favorite small cigars"

Don't let the small size put you off they will still take 20 min or so to smoke.

Maybe he took the advice here and did not extinguish his cigar and let it burn out on it's own but because he was not told to be careful of leaving an ashtray with a lit cigar in it there was a disaster. That national geographic magazine that he only reads for the articles caught on fire when he went to get shorter cigars at the 7-11. His house could of burnt down and he was farced to move to another part of the world that has no INTERNET service.
