Thread: New Fella

  1. Default New Fella

    Hello All-
I am new to the forums (duh) Just a bit O back story. I have not been smoking cigars for the past ten years. I did ten years ago have a taste for them and was not a pro but picked up a few decent sticks here and there. I had a big wedding (best friends sister) and they had some free cigars for the party. They were not hte best but not dirt either, we shared a few there and it re-kindled the taste and quest for a good cigar that I missed. I have since picked up the hobbie and have not looked back. I really got super interested when a good friend of mine passed me a couple Romea Y Juliettas (sp??) they were smooth and very enjoyable. Then I took a trip to the local Cigar shop (glad I have a good one so close) to begin my own journey. I looked through the humidor at all the many brands and flavors on the wall. The guy who owns said shop poked in to assist me (probably b/c I looked overwhelmed) and he was super helpful. I ended up leaving with a RP ""Edge" and a Kristoff Madura. Both of which I enjoyed. I even went back for 3 more of the Kristoffs( I love em) So I am on the quest now for great smooth smoke. I will get into the Padron I picked up Monday I think. Well now you know, thanks for hosting this forum Mods. Looking forward to many more chats on good smokes. JOE>

    Welcome from NH.

There's lots of good smokes out there. Have fun.

A good bet for an inexpensive but tasty smooth maduro is a sancho panza.

    Give them a try sometime.

Also there is a thread here called a the newbie sampler. It is a great way to try a bunch of different smokes hand picked by someone who has tried them all.

I second the Newbie Sampler, I am still enjoying sticks from my sampler (thanks slcraiders)
Also, the one thing I have found to be fun in this hobby is to just try the sticks...and if you don't like that particular one, don't smoke it again.

Oh Ya welcome to the board from NW PA

Welcome from Idaho via the sandbox.

Your best bet would be to read some of the fantastic reviews on here, especially the ones done on the maduros since you like them so much.

I also have to recommend the Sancho Panza Double Maduro, preferably the "Escudero" size they offer. It's on Cigar International's website for half off, which is why it's referred to as "the devil site". I should know, I just bought two more boxes of them and am finishing up my first box of the "Cervantes" (a little longer with a smaller ring gauge than the Escudero).

If you like a very strong and flavorful smoke, try the Casa Magna Colorado Maduro ... but beware, it will smack you good.

You might also want to try the 5 Vegas Series "A" in the "Apex" box pressed sized.

And feel free to ask about a cigar if you're not sure.

    A second welcome from Colorado!
I second Buzz's advice. You will save yourself and others if you take your time, maybe while smoking, and read past posts as well as searching. There is a ton of great answers to questions already asked here.
I am in the middle of a newbie sampler transaction, and am excited to receive mine!

I am right above the triangle, near the VA border. About 30 mins north or Durham, a town called Roxboro.
