Buzz is that test to become a fireman? Several of my buddies have taken that exam and I rememeber all too well how they fretted over it. Good luck, I'll gladly light a stick on Friday for you and let us know how you did when the results come in

Nah, my dad was a firefighter and I thought about going that route, but I don't do well with blood and when I started looking at the EMT training books I may or may not have passed out... repeatedly.

The test is an Engineering exam that (if I pass) gives me the ability to design Fire Protection systems and then stamp and sign them. Currently, I do FP sprinkler design, but the registration will allow me to market into other areas of Fire Protection (smoke control systems, etc.)

Basically, it gives me the ability to take responsibility for my designs, and then get sued when something goes wrong.

Good luck with the exam, man.

What's helped me the most when taking standardized tests is trying to find some kind of sample test, so I get used to the types of questions asked and the types of answers they are looking for. I know the GRE was this way - hardest test I've ever taken.

    Good luck!

I shudder when I think of my week leading up to the GRE [insert me shaking]

    Engineering... Bahh....

Someone talked me into studying Engineering. I thought I was going to learn how to drive a train - instead I got hit with some SERIOUS math and physics...

Take home and open book exams were the absolute worse...

Math was the only subject I was ever any good at... and PE...

This is the second open book engineering exam I have taken (I took the Mechanical version in 2007) - I think closed book exams are easier.

So the test is over and man am I relieved (and my wife too). Nothing like getting up at 5:30 in the morning to go take a 8 hour test... ugh. The good news is that I think I did pretty well, it was a tough one and I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't pass - but I think I did. They say we will get the results in 2 to 3 months... not sure why it takes them that long but oh well.

Anyway, I wasn't able to make it on the chat in time to hang out with any of you guys - sorry bout that. After the test I went to an Architect's party to do a little marketing. I did enjoy a cigar though when I got home - Ashton VSG, tasted great.

For fun, here are some pics of my study materials:

(NFC volumes 1 through 18, NFPA Handbooks volumes 1 and 2, SFPE Handbook, NFPA 13 Handbook, SFPE Reference Manual, 3-ring binder with 53 pages of handwritten notes, spiral notebook with more notes and equations, and my pocket ref)

I only used 75% of the material I brought, but I would have kicked myself if I had left something home and then needed it...

Thanks for the luck guys, I'll let you know when to light up the victory cigar!
