Default Celebrate with me on Friday

    Hey guys,

I have been studying for an exam for the past 2 months and the exam is this Friday - It is the Fire Protection Engineering exam and I really hope I pass because it is only offered once a year. It is an 8 hour exam and open book, so it is pretty rough, but I feel prepared. I find out the results months later, but Friday night I will celebrate anyway with my wife and I would like to extend the invitation to all of you.

I am new here, and don't have much of a collection going right now, so it will be a BYOS night, but my wife makes some great fudge and I will gladly share it with anyone who wants to travel to Tucson, AZ!

If you can't make the trip I understand, but light up a good stick with me around 7PM MST and we can share a celebration smoke - no more studying!

Oh and if you wouldn't mind, send me some good luck Friday morning - I am starting to feel those butterflies... ugh, I hate tests.

Yeah, except it means I am bringing the entire NFPA set (18 volumes), the SFPE Handbook, NFPA Handbooks (2 volumes), a Reference Manual, and 43 pages of hand written notes and practice problems... the test becomes more about not what you know, but how quickly you can figure out where to find what you need to know.

It is funny to see everyone in line to take the exam, everyone has a handcart with stacks and stacks of books... bunch of dorks - oh wait.

Good luck. R&R and cigar afterward sounds like a good idea - you've earned it.

Buzz is that test to become a fireman? Several of my buddies have taken that exam and I rememeber all too well how they fretted over it. Good luck, I'll gladly light a stick on Friday for you and let us know how you did when the results come in

Nah, my dad was a firefighter and I thought about going that route, but I don't do well with blood and when I started looking at the EMT training books I may or may not have passed out... repeatedly.

The test is an Engineering exam that (if I pass) gives me the ability to design Fire Protection systems and then stamp and sign them. Currently, I do FP sprinkler design, but the registration will allow me to market into other areas of Fire Protection (smoke control systems, etc.)

Basically, it gives me the ability to take responsibility for my designs, and then get sued when something goes wrong.

Good luck with the exam, man.

What's helped me the most when taking standardized tests is trying to find some kind of sample test, so I get used to the types of questions asked and the types of answers they are looking for. I know the GRE was this way - hardest test I've ever taken.

    Good luck!

I shudder when I think of my week leading up to the GRE [insert me shaking]

I thought the same thing - until the first "open book" exam I was given...

I've now made it my life's philosophy to not trust anyone that tells me "open book" and "take home exams" are a "piece of cake"

Good luck, Buzz... If I wasn't recovering from a nasty sinus mess I'd be all over smoking a cigar in your honor. My thought of smoking one will just have to do!

    Engineering... Bahh....

Someone talked me into studying Engineering. I thought I was going to learn how to drive a train - instead I got hit with some SERIOUS math and physics...

Take home and open book exams were the absolute worse...
