    Default Rss

I was hoping to get some insight on RSS feeds. I read the wikipedia and have been trying to research on the web, but I'm not the most tech savy guy and a lot of the info is over my head. So, as I understand it, I can subscribe to a forum, forum section, or thread and new updates will be aggregated and sent to me. My questions are the following:

If I subscribed to a thread via RSS, would I get an aggregate list of updates sent to my e-mail similar to subscribing to a thread?

Has anyone used RSS and if so, what are your thoughts?

I tried to search for RSS but I didn't find anything. Any and all insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

I tried getting into the RSS thing but I didn't find it that helpful. If you use programs like Google Reader I think the advantage is that all of the Feeds that you are subscribed to end up in one place. So for example, you can view all the new threads/posts from a number of different forums, plus get news clips from your other favorite sites. If you have a smartphone you can get the feeds sent there as well.

Best thing to do is just try it out and see if you like it.

That's my experience as well. RSS is very nice if you're specifically looking for information that pertains to something you are interested in. For example - if you're into cyber security and interested in computer forensics - you can RSS feed that info from multiple sources into one central location so that you can be updated by what's new out in cyberland without having to search all of the sites to see if there's new content. It, theoretically, reduces the amount of information you have to go through to get to what you need. The key is focusing the RSS feeds to very specific information - the more narrow, the better.

Google reader is pretty good from what I saw (although I don't use it now) - there are others too, like FeedDemon which I think installs on your machine.

If you have an iphone there are apps for RSS feeds (I think they have them for the Crackberries too).
