Cigar caddy

I purchased a cigar caddy 30 ct and a 2ct. I’m leaving in about 5 days or so, on a business related trip. I’m going to be gone for 2 weeks. Not that I will need all of them but I’m going to pack about 10 or so cigars in the caddy. I’m planning on buying some cigars while I’m gone and bring it back full.

My first impression is wow this thing is really sturdy, and is really air tight and probably will float. I don’t think I would use this for long term storage but I think it will be nice for trips where I plan to come back with some cigars or for an extended vacation.

Anyway I’ve got a few of the Boveda humidity packs. This is what I’m going to use as the humidifier. It came with a 69% pack and I bought a few of the 72% packs to try out in a different humidor which I also purchased. Is there a seasoning time for these travel humidors? I was checking it out and it will hold 30 sticks but it seems like it might be tight I was wandering if I should just use one pack or one on each level? I don't know if this would be a waste? I’m just concerned with the humidity throughout the humidor. Is the foam vapor permeable? These cigar caddy humidors are air tight I had to use the pressure release valve to open the sucker it came shipped from Florida I’m at 5000 feet.

Great timing on this post. I just recieved the cigar caddies I ordered from Cheapsmokes and was wondering the same stuff. Can't wait til my annual Arizona golf vacation to use them (last time i had 2 broken sticks and 3 that didn't last long)!

Boveda says for every 25 sticks you use one pack plus one pack.

25 would be 2 (1 for the first 25, +1 additional pack)
50 would be 3 (1 for each 25, or 2, +1 additional pack)
75 would be 4 (1 for each 25, or 3, +1 additional pack)

I've used this method with my 50 count Cigar Caddy and it works great, one each at the top, middle, and bottom.

Here is another possible solution, pack some beads ( heartfelt) in a piece of netting. I use 2-3 teaspoons in a makeshift pouch that I hand sewed together. Spray it liberally with distilled water and put it in your case. I used this method while I was on a cruise vacation last year. All my smokes did very well and smoked great while I was gone for ten plus days. Give it a try sometime. Roger.

Very nice indeed! I just fell victim to CBID last night and won a 15 ct which should not require too much humidification. Even though its not the cigar caddy, it still does the exact same thing.

Yes, like beads, you can't use too many Boveda packs, but you can use too few. So they err on the side of caution (and you buy more packs ;-) For a trip of a couple weeks I'd say one is more then enough, especially if the cigars are in cello.

BTW, misting the Boveda packs with distilled water makes them last longer.

I myself think that one pays an awful lot for the convenience of Boveda, and use the bead sheet sold by Heartfelt. The sheet takes up less room than beads, but you need more of it there is less surface area. (The amount of water held is the same, but the rate of humidity release/capture is slower).
