    Default New Puppy!

Girlfriend really hooked me up for an early birthday present. Today I got a brand new puppy! 9 week old little Border Collie. I have always loved these dogs, I am a big outdoors guy (hiking and fishing) and this is one hell of a dog to take with for those activities so I am pumped. I will try and get some pics up for you guys later, she is just too damn cute.

Any of you guys happen to have a Border Collie? I have raised many dogs, but never one this smart, so if any of you guys have any tips on cool tricks for collies it would be very helpful.

    Edited to add- 100th post!

    Congratulations!!
Our youngest is 1/2 border collie and 1/2 German short-hair. You're right, very, very smart dogs.
They are very athletic, have amazing balance and can jump to beat hell. The herding instinct is very prevalent, even in our half-breed.

That is awesome. I am very happy for you.

I wish I could get a dog, but most times there is nobody at the house for 11 hours a day. Sometimes longer.

Congrats on the new dog! After my dog is gone that will be it for a while. Collies are lovable and wonderful dogs, although I have never owned one, I used to have a family friend who had one and they are excellent dogs to have. Looking forward to the pics. Roger.

Congrats bro - gotta love puppies, they are just too cute - even when they poop on your carpet you can't help but smile.

I know what you mean. My fiancé wanted to replace my pet in a month. I spent years with it that she didn't, and I resent these two brothers she got from the rescue. It's hard to replace a pet with an awesome personality, and collies can have a lot of personality.

There are lots of border collies/aussies around these parts and they are definitely smart dogs. However, when a dog is smart, it also can have a tendency to bore easily. So be willing to put in time with it EVERY day or your pooch will soon begin finding ways to amuse himself...and it will probably be in ways you'll be unhappy walking in on (read: chewing shit up)

I had a Border Collie mix for 13 years, for the first year i wanted to kill that dog from hell and for the next 12 you would have to kill me if you even thought about hurting her.

They need a job to keep them occupied or they will destroy everything you own.

Your in for one hell of a ride.

Oh I have heard horror stories. She will be a frisbee and possibly agility dog for sure. I can already tell two days in that she is going to be a little asshat for about a year or more.

Speaking of asshat dogs, I adopted my mothers dog and its ate threw the cable tv wire in back yard twice now. had to run it through pvc pipe last night. Golden retriever this is probably mom's way of getting back at me for all the things tore up.

This is useful only with pics. You announce puppy and you don't have pics, total rookie mistake.
