Thread: Flooding

  1. Default Flooding

We have had 14 plus inches of rain in Jackson, Tennessee since Saturday AM. We have major flooding, roads washing away, bridge collapses. homes swept away, levees breaching, and people missing. We have a major mess. I worked 23 straight hours and go back in tonight for more.

Keep our citizens and emergency responders in your prayers. I've been doing this kind of work for over 20 years and have never seen anything like this.

    Yes, be safe.

Flooding is really scary in the sense that there's just nothing you can do.

I feel for you, Ken. Years ago better than half our town went under water. The first few days were maddening (20 hour days) and it took 2 weeks or so of 12+ hour days of work for everyone to get everything back to some kind of normalcy. No days off - no excuses. And just when you thought all was well - then came the clean up.

I don't believe I ever worked so hard in my life...

...and I saw the foootage in the news. Was thinking about you and hoping all was well. That looks like a DOOZY flood you got on your hands...

Thoughts and prayers your way, Ken. ...and don't forget to get your Tetanus shot.

Sorry Ken. That looks like a hell of an emergency situation. Be very careful, and mind your safety gear and procedures.

In 36 hours we pulled around 400 people out of flood zones. People are driving their cars past barricades into the flood water. They then call us for help when their car stalls out. We help them out and issue them a nice ticket for disobeying a traffic sign.

We have county roads washed away, bridges gone, and houses under water. The city is in the same situation. Fortunately all people are now accounted for that we know were missing. The weather is clear and warm now. The rivers have crested and should be going down.

Clean up is ongoing. Repair could take a year or more. I'm tired but things are looking up.

You gotta have someone like our "submarine commander" on your department. He was told NOT to drive down certain roads because of the depth of the water. Not 15 minutes later he took a BRAND SPANKING NEW squad car down the impassible road, and filled it with water to the bottom of the windows. Destroyed the car AND all the electronics in the car (radio, computer, etc.)...

...and the ultimate punishment fit his crime - he was promoted to Sergeant.
