Grammatically speaking, periods and commas generally go before the closing quote mark.

Umm, wow. Probably not the best time to jump right in here with that little pearl of wisdom. No doubt I have made (and will continue to make) grammatical and spelling errors - but if I can help it, I avoid it (unlike Gary). I have been correcting Gary because his apathetic, disrespectful, arrogant attitude coupled with his horrific use of the English language is pretty annoying. And I'm trying to get my post-count up too. Uh oh, I started a sentence with "And". Uh oh, I did the quotes wrong again.
