Thread: New Guy

  1. Default New Guy

    Hello!

I have long appreciated the complex and evolving flavors of good espresso, wine, and liquor, so I thought it would be good to give cigars a try. I had never smoked a single thing in my life, but I went to the local Tobacconist and purchased an Oliva Serie V Double Toro. I had a great experience and knew at that moment I had found another hobby.

I'm currently seasoning my first humidor - eagerly awaiting stabilization so that I can buy more cigars!

Yes, I have spent many evenings at Barnes and Noble sipping latte and reading cigar books.

My humidor is almost ready. The hygrometer is calibrated and reading 68% I'm throwing in the beads and waiting for it to level off for a few days.

    Welcome from here.

Cigar books? Seasoned Humidor before the cigars go in? You might be trying to hard. Smoke more. Similar to fine wines and espresso, you'll develop tastes and preferences you can't possibly realize until you try. I'm not knocking cigar books, but in my experience the opinions are quite subjective.

    Smoke more.

    Welcome from western Oregon.

Nice humidor. When--not if--you run out of space get a coolidor/coolerdor. You can keep boxes and extras in there, while keeping a few sticks of each cigar in the nice looking humidor. Cheap way to maximize space and still have an elegant display.
