Cars she was looking at include the Camaro SS, Dodge challenger R/T, Jeep Patriot "one look at the Jeep and she walked away saying hell no" and some small Chevy turbo charged car "cruz i think it was called".

So when she decided she wanted a Subaru that was not turbo charged it surprised me. "I would have picked a WRX STI "

That's quite a wide spread of cars / SUV's... And I concur with the lack of turbo charger, though the WRX is nothing but a high powered roller skate.

Funny story about the WRX - I was in having my car serviced at a local dealer and was friends with the used car manager. They'd just taken in a "tweaked" WRX and he suggested I take it for a "test drive" - just because it would be fun and I needed to kill some time until my car was fixed. I did - I was impressed and had some fun with it, but was definitely not interested - WAY too small for my tastes.

I came back into the car dealer lot after my "test drive" and saw there was a "youngster" (late teens) and his father waiting by the curb, anxiously eyeing me as I pulled in. Turns out that apparently he'd been at the dealer the minute the car was brought in and wanted the car on the spot. Since he did not qualify for a loan, he was told to bring his father back to co-sign.

I could just picture the conversation between the kid and his dad - and empathized with the father's expression of disgust over what his son was about to do. The kid had been gut-hooked by the dealer, likely for top dollar on the car, and dad was just along for the ride. I don't imagine dad had too much influence with the kid over negotiating a price on the deal - particularly after I had been out for the "test drive" and the kid thought I wanted to buy the car right out from under him.

I toyed with the kid for about 15 minutes or so - closely checking out the car with my dealer friend (he, of course, was getting a kick out of my acting). Not to kill the deal and in deference to my manager friend, I resisted saying what I thought should be said (e.g. "this is not nearly worth the money you're asking"). I figured if the kid was so gut-hooked, he should take it square in the shorts like he so richly deserved. Who was I to spoil that "learning moment" for him...

Bottom line - I much more enjoyed the supercharged Pontiac GTP than the high powered turbo charged roller skate called the WRX, even though the WRX would have likely left me standing. Power is power - but comfort is king!

BTW - I hear very good things about the Subaru Forester. I definitely think it was a wiser choice than the Jeep Patriot.
